gkrnjlr Posted March 5, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 5, 2006 It's our first time going to the Bahamas. We're not beachy people. We like it, but that's not our first choice for excursions, etc. What would you suggest that we do? Any of the excursions through the ship that you'd suggest we take/do? We don't know much about the Bahamas, and were told that there's not much TO know....but we think it'd be cool to see Atlantis. WHAT ELSE? We did not take an excursion on our last cruise to Coz and we really regretted that. SO.... What would be your suggestions as to DO THIS if you were our TA? Thanks. martdm Posted March 5, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 5, 2006 There are many historical sites to see such as the forts or the water tower. The Queen's Staircase is beautiful and interesting. Ardastra Gardens have interesting animals. There is a plethora of shopping options and some museums such as the Pirate Museum. At Atlantis you can tour the Dig (aquarium), walk the grounds, hit the casino, etc. Dining options abound. There is a ton of information on this forum if you sort through the previous posts, I'm sure you'll find something to your liking.
gkrnjlr Posted March 6, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted March 6, 2006 I've read a lot on the board, and it's been very helpful. Would you suggest that we take a tour excursion to get the majority of it? Then afterwords go off on our own? Thanks!
Nliedel Posted March 6, 2006 #4 Share Posted March 6, 2006 I suggest atalantis if large resorts interest you then maybe some shopping. It's an interesting place to walk around once (I now take the Yellowbird Tour and have rum punch and meet people but that goes to a beach for a couple hours so probably not what you are interested in). gkrnjlr Posted March 6, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted March 6, 2006 You're going to have fun! I did read about the Yellowbird tour. That does sound fun. I think we'll consider that some other time, too. Do you typically take your tours/excursion through the shipline or just go off on your own? Thanks! Nliedel Posted March 6, 2006 #6 Share Posted March 6, 2006 Heading to Atlantis, the time I did it, we went alone but I have been to the Caribbean countless times and Nassau about 10 now so I am very comfortable there. If you are at all nervous about going off on your own you can take the ships tour this time and go out on your own the next time. The Dolphin Encounter is nice but VERY crowded. You can take a taxi or water taxi to Atlantis. Again it's interesting but, how do I put this? If you have been to Vegas and love it you will love Atlantis. I love Vegas but I tend to save that Casino/Resort thing for Vegas. Know what I mean?
BettyB2 Posted March 6, 2006 #7 Share Posted March 6, 2006 If you want some information on Nassau, please email me and I will send you the files I have that our group of 39 used there last month. There is much to see and do in Nassau and the people were fabulous. ceceliajean1@yahoo.com If you are interested in Bahamian culture and people, then ATlantis is NOT the place to visit..... martdm Posted March 7, 2006 #8 Share Posted March 7, 2006 Would you suggest that we take a tour excursion to get the majority of it? Then afterwords go off on our own? I'd only suggest a ship's excursion to these sites if you are extremely meek about doing things on your own. The majority of the sites I listed are walking distance from the pier. One of the forts & Ardastra are easily reached by taking the jitney (or walking if you don't mind a mile or so - we took the jitney there & walked back). After you do all that, come back to the pier area & grab a cab to Atlantis.
gkrnjlr Posted March 7, 2006 Author #9 Share Posted March 7, 2006 NOT trying to be airheaded......but am I reading this properly? When the ship docks, we'll take a water taxi to the mainland and then we'll be able to go into the tourist building and we can pick and choose excursions, etc.? Thanks for all the info. You're ot an airhead. The ships dock at a large pier and you will be next to other behemoths! You will be able to walk right up the pier to the area where the water taxis leave from. If you booked an excursion ahead of time they will be on the pier to meet you.
Natalia Posted March 8, 2006 #11 Share Posted March 8, 2006 Its my understanding that the ships dock AT the Prince George Warf in Nassau, which IS the mainland. The water taxis depart from the warf and take you to other places including Paradise Island which is where the Atlantis Hotel is. Here is a map that I base this info from: http://www.bahamasgp.com/islp-map-downtown-w.html
