mhoffrob Posted October 29, 2022 #1 Share Posted October 29, 2022 we are fully booked on the Marina from Lima to Miami. Does anyone know if the Panama Canal transit is through the "old" locks or the "new" locks? I'm assuming that as a smaller ship it could be the old locks - which is my hope!! Rare mauibabes Posted October 30, 2022 #2 Share Posted October 30, 2022 My guess, and only a guess, is that it will be the old canal. It costs the cruise lines plenty to transit them and I would expect the new canal is even more expensive. Since the new canal is the only option for the large ships and freighters, Unless the queue is terribly backed up in the old canal, I can’t see Oceania taking the new canal route. JMHO though. alcpa1 Posted October 30, 2022 #3 Share Posted October 30, 2022 We went through the Canal in February on the Marina and used the old locks. O ships are not big enough to use the new locks and they certainly don't need to spend the $$$$$$.
