A late report on an August dawn cruise.

The fruit looked good but we decided against trying fig salami.

 

Not the greatest place for outside seating.

 

Crowds steadily building.

It's Saturday so a wedding is on.

So we were now headed to a Monastery Museum.

Now back to the main square down a couple of the narrow lanes.

By now there was quite a crowd lined up to get a picture of the wedding including this guy.

 

The groom was getting nervous with last minute repairs.coffees and I presume once something a little stronger.

He was sweating profusely.

 

One guest with a distinctive outfit.

 

But we now had to go uphill to catch a bus to the countryside.

 

When we got to where the bus was parked I noticed these women all wearing the same outfit.

 

 

So I waited to see what was happening. It was the bride.

Now our guide said this wasn't the bride they were waiting for in the old town as this bride was from the countryside. it wasn't until I downloaded my photos when I saw that the fellow with the groom in the first picture of the previous post is the same fellow attending to the bride unless they are identical twins that dress exactly the samr.

 

So off on the bus past the City walls.

 

Good views on the high road.

 

Arrived at our first stop. a small family run vineyard.

So a wine tasting with simple but tasty platters.

 

The wines weren't too bad but the cherry liquer later was beautiful.
Now back to the bus.

A walk down a private road past a couple of houses to the restaurant where lunch is to be served. Growing Kiwi fruit.

We were serenaded throughout lunch by this trio. They weren't bad. asked people where they were from and sang an appropriate song. they certainly surprised a South African couple. For Australia it was of course Waltzing matilda followed by I come from a land Down under and give me a home amongst the gum trees.

 

Lunch was lamb and potatoes and apple strudel. Nice comfort food.

 

Then out to the gardens.

 

One of the houses had 3 young girls selling figs. Mrsdrron said she would buy some if they let her take a picture. It was a done deal. the figs were really nice.

 

Wild boar apparently common.

 

And we passed the airport.

Now to dinner.

 

The entrees.

 

I then had the lobster bisque.

 

And for mains Rojaan had the lobster salad and I the veal chop.

 

For desserts I had the special and Rojaan the Eton mess.

Sunday and we have arrived in Split.The last port before disembarkation.

 

On the bus and off to an old town- Trogir.

 

Quite a few examples of old Soviet era buildings.

 

I enjoyed the views of the mountain range.

We have arrived at Trogir. The old town is on an island but the bus has to park on the other side of the channel.

We arrived at the square as usual dominated by a church.

It was Sunday and people were going into the church. being cheeky I went in, sat in the back pew, took my photo and walked out.

 

When my travel computer died some of my photos especially of Trogir weren't able to be recovered but you probably have seen enough old buildings anyway. We had free time and i went and walked around the Sunday markets. Lots of good stuff.

There were also seedlings and flowers for sale.

 

And a building across the bridge from the old town.

 

Back on the bus and I was on the right side for the airport. So a post about plane. First before reaching the airport and then a plane preparing for take off.

 

Then I lost it. The plane that is. I was lost long ago.

Before arriving back in Split.

 

To visit the Diocletian palace. Built by Emperor Diocletian when he retired as Emperor. He was born here.

First a model of the Palace when it was completed. There have been lots of changes with the Palace basically having been subdivided over the years. Many apartments with a lot able to be rented. Frankly I wouldn't want to stay here.

 

The entrance is via the basement.

Which is basically a bazaar.

 

Showing it's age and you can recognise the Roman brickwork.

 

You emerge from the darkness to a great sight.

And what was said to be an original part of the palace with good acoustics. So let's make some money out of it.
