TKinAZ Posted March 5, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 5, 2006 On 6/2, we're cruising the Caribbean for the first time? Should we plan on taking cash for all of our port purchases, or will debit/credit be okay? Any thoughts and ideas are appreciated! :)
sherry7 Posted March 5, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 5, 2006 It really depends on the shop where you're at...some are really small and aren't set up for credit card purchases. If you do plan on using a credit card, ask if they have a Foreign Transaction Fee. My MBNA RCCL Visa 'suprised' me with this, although it was only about 1% or so. Personally, I take very little cash with me. I go to the casino every couple of days and use my Sea Pass to take out cash...supposedly for gambling. ;) Hey, sometimes I do hit the nickle slots on the way out. No extra charge for this either. With credit cards, your banking account is protected. I tend to use credit cards in well established stores and cash for vendors.
jdkey Posted March 5, 2006 #4 Share Posted March 5, 2006 Sherry, and if you use the RCI cc you get extra point for the balance charged to pay off the sea pass! Debbie
phoenixlady Posted March 5, 2006 #5 Share Posted March 5, 2006 You can get cash off your sea-pass card and you'll need plenty in the Caribbean. There are very few vendors that will take anything other than cash. Most tour drivers will take a credit card but the roadside vendors want cash. At least that was our experience.:)
