Rare cruiseypop Posted December 23, 2022 #1 Share Posted December 23, 2022 I have a very specific question for those that may have tried to work while the ship is in port. Does the ship wifi work well while in port? I know they shut off the ship cell coverage when it gets close to port, but does the wifi for internet data stay on? I know data roaming on our phones will work provided we have data roaming in Mexico, but I do not. I'm trying to decide if I can rely on ship wifi or if I need to buy roaming data in advance. My current cell plan provides no data in Mexico. I have the full wifi plan included on my cruise. Has anyone had experience with this at the baja ports? Loreto, La Paz, Cabo? Thanks in advance. shellbeachjim Posted December 23, 2022 #2 Share Posted December 23, 2022 The ship’s wifi stays on, but with the dreadful internet speed we’ve encountered while cruising with Princess lately, I’m not sure it matters much.
Mary Ellen1 Posted December 23, 2022 #3 Share Posted December 23, 2022 Greetings from La Paz. Ship's wifi is OK. Not great, but DH is able to get some work done including wifi calling and even a few video calls. It works. 👍

Rare Rick&Jeannie Posted December 24, 2022 #5 Share Posted December 24, 2022 I have always found much better signal/speed just going onto shore-based data while in port. You did not share what carrier you use...I use AT&T and have the International Day Plan in place. Anytime I find myself in a foreign country it just automatically kicks in. It is $10 per day. Over an extended cruise (many ports) it sometimes can get a bit expensive but I just count it as part of the cruise cost and enjoy always being able to use my phone (Android) however and when ever I like.
