Ship, David. We call it a ship.

:D :D

LOL, right! Don't ever call it a boat around the officers either...they set me straight on that one the night the crew had their weekly party in the disco. I mistakenly said "boat" and it made for a long conversation with lots of laughs!!

I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience onboard the Victory. Maybe it's as some people say about "expectations". My wife and I took our first cruise last September on the Victory and we loved everything about it. We thought the food was great considering they have to prepare so much for 3000 or so people. We never at any time went hungry. Maybe it was because this was our first cruise but i wouldn't hesitate to go on another one with the Victory. This September we'll be on the Triumph though since we wanted to try another one. We also booked all of our shore excursions through private companies since I researched on these boards to find reputable ones. Then we just made sure we could be to the pickup sites in time by booking an excursion that would give us plenty of time in case the ship arrived a little late. Well anyway good luck on your next cruise whoever it may be with.

After more thought I do have a few complaints about our cruise on the Victory:

1) Every day the sun was out and it was soooooo hot on the sundeck. Carnival should do something about that.

2) The sea was too calm. I was hoping for more wave action to test out my bonine tablets. again maybe the captain could have steared the boat into a storm.

3) I could not stand the waiters being so friendly. always smiling and happy looking. come on we really no they just want a tip.

4) Alcoholic drinks were too good and it made me to keep buying more.

5) I paid for a balcony room but just a few days before the cruise we got notice that we were being upgraded to a cat 11 suite with an extra large balcony. That just sucks. I paid for a balcony so i should receive a balcony. The nerve of Carnival.

LOL everyone!

That's mature thinking.

I'm sorry you are getting so flamed. I can appreciate your response, they will be helpful when I go on my cruise in May. I will make sure to not book early excursions. Thanks for the tip, that's too bad you had such a bad experience for so much money. Sometimes, though, it's easy to get caught up in the negatives, esp when it seems like everyone is being unhelpful. Just remember, it's much easier to catch flies with a tsp on honey than with a gallon of gall... I suggest reading the book, How To Influence People. It will really help to understand others points of view, and how you can gain from negative people.

Again, thanks for the tips. I hope you find a vacation that works for you.

Wow.

I don't really see it as a "Review". This is a rant and whine. BECAUSE....it gave no information that could be useful to other passengers in the future...it gave no details and the problem solving solutions tried. Etc!! There was NOTHING in it other than spewing venom. NOT cool. Sounds like some major anger issues. "Hatred" for a person you don't even know...man. It isn't healthy to live your life so filled with anger. That'll kill you faster than starving!

For future reference, when things go wrong, find MATURE answers and solutions. No 'stomping' and whining required.

We were actually HUNGRY when we went to sleep the first four nights!
That's just bizarre. Good grief...fill yourself up on ice cream for cryin' out loud. That is a self-induced problem.

What appealed to you in the food dept or dept is not a Carnival issue, those are your own taste buds. But there HAD to be something that was good...

We decided to try the “alternative” dining option on the 3rd day and we were shocked to see the EXACT same food on the “alternative” buffet that was being served in the dining room that night!!!
Haven't seen that before....
there are some times when all there is to eat is PIZZA!
Well, that's simply not true either. I may not have been on your particular cruise, but I have been on enough to know that food availability is 24 hours a day.
I had excellent ham ONE night but other than that, I starved!!!!!
OMG!! People....we MISSED this!! There was a COMPLIMENT!!!!
We asked others if they liked the food and it was 50/50. I don’t know, maybe I expected too much by thinking I wouldn’t have to eat pizza all week!
50/50...what was your research method...% margin of error?? That is a LOT of people to ask how they liked the food. We have five people in our family...you would probably get mixed reviews each night...my son would probably hate everything BUT the pizza, my two daughters would probably try everything and like most of it as long as it was somewhat 'familiar', my DH would definitely try more than one of everything and like it ALL and I would try just about everything, but lean more toward the 'exotic' as I can get 'chicken and steak' any ol' time. I would probably like most of it as well....That is a LOT of things to compare and like or not.

CRUISE DIRECTOR: My hatred for this man is very high.
Pure anger issues here.
SO and I either attended the “travel talk” briefings or watched them on tv so that we knew what was going on.
You don't remember which you did?? Or did you do both?? You couldn't have paid too close attention to not have gained some insight on how tenders work.

Basically I threw a fit and finally got him to say he’d look into it further.
Very mature response and method to get what you want....
LIDO DECK: 1/4 of the chairs on the decks were “saved” by beach towels which is against carnival’s policy.
Wow...you sure were doing a lot of counting and number crunching on this cruise. ANY research would tell you that 'chair saving' is a problem. NO matter what line, we have all read about it. I get a travel magazine (not Currents, so no it isn't even a Carnival mag) and I have read about it in there!
CROWD: It’s a party ship, plain and simple. I asked on various boards beforehand if it was, but the bottomline is, people go on carnival to drink themselves silly. We had wine spilled on us, etc. I’ve never seen so many middle-age drunks in all of my life.
 Say it isn't so!! Personally, I don't go to drink myself silly...I am sure that some do...but I also don't pay attention to them. I am having too much of my own fun and relaxation. Wine spilled on you? Thank god it wasn't something dangerous.....

It was the worse experience of my life.
I hope that since this was the 'worst' that you have experienced in your life, that you continue to live a long, blessed life with so little to worry about!! You are very fortunate!!!

We were on the Victory 2/12/06 through 2/19/06 and had the time of our lives!! I didn't read all of the posts here but I can't imagine the food being HORRIBLE as the original poster stated. In fact, I've never eaten so much in my life! As for Dana, the cruise director, wonderful!

Any future Victory sailers - take this thread with a grain of salt and don't let it worry you!! YOU WILL LOVE THIS SHIP AND THE EXPERIENCE! And - research these boards before you go and you'll know what to do and NOT do...

6. How dare they keep the FREE ice cream at such a temperature that it starts to melt the minute you bring it into the 85 degree Caribbean weather!!!

7. I got a sunburn...shouldn't Carnival compensate me for the pain and suffering I received??

8. I want a darn refund from all the money I spent in the casino!!!!! Doesn't that warrant a free cruise? Maybe I should write to Bob....LMAO

9. The free drinks I got in the casino were weak....where's my complaint form!!!!

10. When I order a darn steak instead of what's on the menu in the main dining room....I expect that it will be overcooked or not to my liking...how dare they bring me a perfectly grilled steak?!?!?!

This poster reminds me of my dad.. I mean, don't get me wrong.. I love the guy (my dad, not the poster), but on a vacation or trip.. one little thing goes wrong and forget it, it's Mt. Vesuvius.. Sounds like you just got on a roll and then every little thing (95% of which sounds like normal cruise stuff) just amplified your anger and frustration. To be honest I pretty much tuned out after the food thing. I mean, to each his own but if you can't find anything to eat on a Carnival Ship to least keep you from going to bed hungry (although I bet you're exaggerating.. just a little) you have some problems my friend..

This has to be a joke. Nobody could have these many things go wrong without any positives. jmho

You hit the nail on the head this cruiser is looking for something from Uncle Bob. So many things went wrong oh my. With all of the food choices there had to be something that would have been okay.

Maybe this person should have cruised on the Crystal or the Love Boat.

Oh, and the 1/4 chair saving thing....isn't 1/4 equal to 25%?? If only 25% of the chairs were saved then that would mean that 75% of the Lido deck chairs were available for use! Wish it were that many on the Liberty!!!!!

What are you complaining about?!?!?!?! Of every 100 lido deck chairs only 25 were being saved by chair hogs??? Give me a break! Or, in the least, get your facts straight before you rant and rave about your horrible cruise!

Yes we have had some bad food on a couple of cruises. But it did not ruin my entire vacation. Sorry that the person spilled a drink on you, but that is why I try to avoid the bars.

I have to say that not awlays are the desserts at the buffet very good, but heck that is why I try ALL OF THEM. same goes for dinner every night.

We had a problem on the last cruise with noise from the Casino, my fault I did not look when I booked theroom, but heck I went to the pursers desk, and we talked about the problem. I was not hostile when I walked up. They stated that they did not have anotehr cabin that we could be moved to but, did offer a couple of pairs of earplugs. They also stated they would speak to the Casino manager and would that the ringers be turned down after 10:00 pm, which they did every night for a 12 day cruise. we alsu received 4 drink coupons. WOW that was a surprise.

Sorry your cruise experience was not what you thought it would be. Better luck next time.

I just returned from my cruise aboard the Carnival Victory (2/26 –3/5). I can confidently say that I will NEVER sail with Carnival again!!! It’s hard to decide where to begin my horror story…

FOOD: The food was HORRIBLE. Everyone says you gain 10 lbs on a cruise but I lost 2 lbs and my SO lost 5 lbs. We were actually HUNGRY when we went to sleep the first four nights! We ate in the main dining room the first 2 nights. The main entrees usually included one beef product. SO and I ordered the prime rib (although it wasn’t called “prime rib” both nights because everything else on the menu sounded unappealing. The cuts of meat used on the ship were cheap, in my opinion. My parents were also on the cruise and my dad sent his prime rib back because it had so much fat on it. I cut the fat off of mine on both nights and there was hardly anything left. The salads were very small and the desserts were completely TASTELESS! I’ve had better cake out of a betty crocker box. We decided to try the “alternative” dining option on the 3rd day and we were shocked to see the EXACT same food on the “alternative” buffet that was being served in the dining room that night!!! It was no alternative at all!!! Carnival advertises multiple dining options but THAT IS A LIE! The other “restaurants” Carnival talks about are actually walk up windows that do not run all the time. If fact, there are some times when all there is to eat is PIZZA! I go on a cruise and I’m stuck eating pizza? It wasn’t even great pizza! The “BBQ” never made steak or chicken sandwhichs like it advertised, it only made hamburgers and hotdogs! The Chinese wok was rarely open. I had excellent ham ONE night but other than that, I starved!!!!! We asked others if they liked the food and it was 50/50. I don’t know, maybe I expected too much by thinking I wouldn’t have to eat pizza all week!

CRUISE DIRECTOR: My hatred for this man is very high. SO and I either attended the “travel talk” briefings or watched them on tv so that we knew what was going on. During Dana’s (the cruise director) travel talk about grand cayman, he instructed everyone with an excursion before 10am to meet in the Caribbean lounge. He “PROMISED” that we would be on the first tender boats off the ship so that we were on time. SO, myself and my father arrived at 7:20. The shipped docked at 7:30. Our excursion was at 8:30 but we were suppose to check in at 8:00. I did NOT book the excursion through Carnival. We waited and waited until 7:50 when (the most annoying) social host came in and said everyone could proceed to the gangway!!!! Of course, that meant we were behind everyone who had been lining up on the stairs for the last 40 minutes!!! I went up to the social host and showed him my receipt for the excursion and asked if I shouldn’t be put on one of the first boats off. He said just go down stairs. Well, guess what? We were on the 3rd boat off and we were 20 mins late for the tour and the entire tour was cut short by 20 mins for me and everyone else on it. And I was MORTIFIED when I arrived at Captain Marvins for the tour because I was so late and everyone knew I was holding it up. I complained to the pursers desk when I got back on the ship and found that the pursers desk doesn’t give a **** about anything. They took my complaint and said they would forward it to the cruise director. 2 days went by and I kept calling and asking what was going on. Finally, they said the cruise director had responded and said that I must not have been in the Caribbean lounge at the right time and that if I had booked the excursion through carnival, that I was have been assured a full tour because the carnival tour operators wait for all guests!!! I couldn’t believe it!!! First of all, I WAS in the lounge at the right time, in fact we were early and one of the first people there. Second, he completely ignored the fact that he promised during his travel talk to get us off the boat first and then we were shoved behind everyone else. Third, he basically said oh well because I didn’t book the excursion through carnival so he didn’t give a ****!

EXCURSIONS: My parents took the grand cayman island tour and it didn’t make all the stops listed. I went to the shore excursion desk to complain and was told that was just how the tour was!!! When I went back to my room the tv was on to the cruise directors travel talk about grand cayman and as luck would have it, he described that exact tour stop-by-stop. So I marched back to the shore excursion desk and complained again. Then they wanted to know the bus number my parents were on. I told them they didn’t know that and that I wouldn’t have looked at the bus number either. Then I was told without the bus number there was nothing they could do! Basically I threw a fit and finally got him to say he’d look into it further. Two days later I noticed a 10% discount for the tour on my sail and sign card but they never called me or sent me a letter. I also told them that the dolphin swim in Costa Maya only had 1 dolphin for their group when the other groups had 3 dolphins and the same amount of people and they said “that’s just how it is”. They didn’t care one bit if people were unhappy. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.

LIDO DECK: 1/4 of the chairs on the decks were “saved” by beach towels which is against carnival’s policy. People were walking around and around looking for chairs. I finally had to carry one all the way around the boat! People would put towels on chairs and never come back. I thought that Carnival should have made an announcement that they were going to collect the towel in 15 minutes. I suggested this to the purser and was told that carnivals policy was to post the “no saving” policy and that’s all! It was a sold out cruise and people were having to sit on the floor. Another incident were carnival didn’t give a ****.

CROWD: It’s a party ship, plain and simple. I asked on various boards beforehand if it was, but the bottomline is, people go on carnival to drink themselves silly. We had wine spilled on us, etc. I’ve never seen so many middle-age drunks in all of my life.

It was the worse experience of my life. I will never go on a carnival ship again. I’m sure I’m forgetting some things because I am so flustered right now. BUYER BEWARE – carnival does not care one bit about you once you buy your ticket.

WOW!!! Sounds like you had a blast!!!

Guess we wont be seeing you on the FUN ships anytime soon...

My thoughts exactly! Can you imagine what the purser was thinking everytime the OP walked up? Yikes!

I'm sure that's why the people that work in the purser's office are a bit...what's the word..."lacking emotion"......when they have to deal with certain passengers complaining constantly, I'm sure they learn to be un-emotional towards certain situations.

Luckily, I'm not a complainer, but I did feel for them a few times I witnessed people complaining....some were DEMANDING free cruises!!!!!

Wow - five pages of responses in four hours or so!!

Doesn't Carnival have some sort of guarantee? I just wonder why, if everything was so horrible, the OP did not ask to be removed from the ship at the next port. Or, did I miss something somewhere?
