Carnival Celebration 03/11

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am sailing for the first time on Carnival Celebration this Saturday. As a young couple on a first time cruise, any suggestions or tips you might offer from those who have taken this cruise before?

Also, I apologize for redundant posts, but I have searched regarding Carnival's "new" wine policy. I have talked to five different vacation specialists at Carnival - all tell me different policies about wine. One rep said that unlimited amounts of wine are now allowed on board. Others suggested "reasonable amounts" and one said anything more than one bottle of wine and 6 bottles of water would be confiscated.

Can't wait till this weekend!

Can't help you with the wine question, sorry.

But I can let you know I think you made a great choice for your first cruise. Celebration is a terrific ship, with an outstanding crew. If you are looking for a high-end, sophisticated exeperience you may be disappointed. But if you want a relaxing vacation that gives you the option to be as lazy or busy as you want, then I think you'll enjoy.

If you are a sushi eater, the sushi served at the trolley bar is very good, and at no additional charge.

The Astoria Lounge is one of the best showrooms I have seen as far as comfort and not a bad seat in the house.

The beds, to die for! You'll sleep like a baby.

Tip-Buffet lines can be long. If you don't want the main courses, they have seperate stations for sandwiches, desserts and pizza.

If you have any interest in the art auction, their's was one of the best I have been to. Very informative, and no pressure to buy, buy, buy!

More questions? Fire away!!

Hey thanks for the response. We are checking out things to do while in Key West. I've known quite a few people that have taken this cruise and loved it.

Having never cruised before, I don't think it can disappoint. Can't wait.

How about the dress code for the formal night? Business suit for men? I hear so many different things about Carnival being "laid back" so I have no idea.

As far as wine, try putting 2 bottles in your check on, and 2 in your carry on.

Hard to match that up and that gives you a good 4 bottles for the 5 days.

Need your own bottle water try putting the .5 liter bottles inside the man's shoes. They fit nicely and act like a shoe tree too!

Just follow the min. dress code suggestion on this one which is a simple sport coat and tie for the man and pretty much anything especially in black flies for the lady from short dress to pantsuit. Best to look your best especially for those formal photos you may want to take home to show everyone how nice you looked on your first cruise. Has anyone said take suntan lotion? It gets really hot down there and you will need it or else you will look like cooked lobsters in those photos. Best to pre-tan before you go.

KeyWest, if you love cats try the Hemmingway house. A short walk from downtown and lots of history on the famous author. Also the Little WhiteHouse of Trumans is nice. We are going to snorkel there next time.

First time to Nassau always check out the Atlantis hotel on your own. Just take a taxi over and back. Good way to kill about 3 hours. Then walk the town. It's really improved in the last few years. Forget the straw market, full of junk you see at flea markets only worse. You will see all the junk from that town in the port terminal as you go into town. You picked a nice sized ship and great ports to visit to get you feet wet in cruising. And remember this, there are 2 types of people in the world: cruisers and non-cruisers. You have to do at least one to find out where you fall. Make the most of your vacation and keep reminding yourself you are on a cruise and your glass is always half full! I'll be going again on the Celebration in April so report back to us what you find out.

We'll be on the same cruise :) I'll have my kids with me, so if you see the chubby woman chasing the blond 3 yo with a crewcut, that's me!

I"m planning on wearing a semi formal black dress on formal night, just cause I like to dress up.

I agree with wrapping 2 bottles of wine in your luggage and a couple in your carryon, shouldn't be a problem.

See you Saturday!!

Will you be using Camp Carnival??

If you do can you save the capers for me - I have a 4 year old..

Also - we were on the Triumph in January and the camp area was very very cold at night - I was glad we had brought long sports pants and long sleeve shirt for our son - even then his skin was so cold from the air conditioning.

Can you let me know if it seems cold on the Celebration too?

Thanks and have a great cruise!!
