balcony with kids?????

AMCRUISER

Recommended Posts

I am about 5 ft 10 and the rail on the balconies comes up right above my waist..as long as you tell your kids to not be climbing on the rails they should be ok..we have had our kids in balcony room before and they were just fine although mine are 9 and 12. I will be honest I was skeptical at first I was always afraid the kids would get to close but they didnt and everything was great they really loved having a blacony room.

Well, you don't plan on leaving them out there alone and unsupervised, do you?

Mine were never left alone on the balcony...no way just the thoughts that go your head alone will freak ya out. I am sure the OP is not gonna let them be out alone.

We sailed with a 4 year old and had a balcony. There was no way he could open the door to the balcony without help. He was never on the balcony without supervision and it was great! He spent a lot of time out there looking for flying fish.

We took our children (then 3 and 7) on the Legend last year in a balcony cabin. For us this worked out very well because we had someplace to go after the kids went to bed. Just be sure they are not out there alone (my 3yo did try to stand on the table once, but he still wouldn't have been high enough to fall (though I still made him get down and went over the rules again!). Go for it, they'll enjoy it, and you'll enjoy the extra place to go!

In all seriousity, the door to the balcony is quite heavy. At that age, they shouldn't be alone in the cabin anyway, so I'd say not to worry.

Heck, hook 'em up with a harness anyway, just to be safe.

I just booked a balcony room on the Legend and I have a 2 and 4 year old (boys). I am going by what everyone says here and it sounds like the doors are very hard to open. By the way, is there a lock on them?

Ya know speaking of the doors and how heavy they are please be very careful when going in and out..as on one cruise someone open the outer door to the hall and the balcony door shut hard on the heel of my foot..trust me they are very heavy and hurt!!

We've always sailed with a balcont cabin and never had a worry. I did explain to them (only to scare them) to imagine falling overboard and being left in the water as the ship just kept right on sailing away. Of course my kids were a little older but it definately kept them from leaning over or against the railing / enclosure. I really think you have nothing to worry about they'll be fine.

Yes, there are locks on the Legend balcony doors. Another safety feature for your peace of mind.

I have never had a balcony cabin when my kids were on board because I feared what would happen. The youngest(and most accident prone) will be 9 before this summer's cruise and we will have a balcony. He is in the kids room across the hall, an inside quad. Still, I would not trust him in our cabin alone and expect to find him climbing at some point. Fortunately, he is very afraid of falling off the ship or you would be seeing the story on the evening news.

WE're cruising on the Legend in December with a 4 year old. We have a balcony cabin. She cruised with us when she was 18 months old. I was more concerned with those holding her than I was with her climbing. The common theme here, never leaving a child unsupervised on the balcony.

I loved the balcony because once she was down for her nap, I could sit outside with a book and read with my eyes closed (my nap!)...I anticipate spending time on the balcony on this cruise while she is asleep or resting!

if you are forced to take kids with you on a cruise a balcony is great. you just have to remember when they start to bug you that you have to give them a good toss or else they won't clear the balcony's below you. Bethee's husband (head of the don't need kids underfoot on a cruise group)

We just got back from the Elation where we were upgraded to the penthouse suite (woohoo!). I was concerned about the balconey as well especially with having a 3 year old. We had no problems but she was never out there alone. On the 2nd day at sea she lifted her little leg and told me she wanted to jump in and go swimming, lol I simply told her that if she jumped in there would be no more Bella because she would be lost in the water. She seemed to understand that quite well.

We absolutely loved our large private balconey. We saw dolphins on two separate occassions and spent a lot of time just looking out at the sea. Ours also had a cord where we could leave the door open at all times and we did just that. We heard the sound of the ocean the entire time we were in our room and of course we had that extra space when our daughter went to bed.
