I can't decide if we should go to 7 mile beach or rent a car and drive to rum point. Any suggestions?

If you suggest 7 mile...can you suggest a good place to tell a cab to stop..would like a spot not tooo busy with good food and drinks nearby.

If you just want to spend your time at a beach, I'd take a cab to Sea Grape. It's not too far (just past the Ritz). There's restrooms, food, chairs and you can rent water toys from Red Sail. We were there for a week, and each time we drove by, the place never really looked that busy. There were cabs lined up to take people back to the pier area. If you do this...allow plenty of time to get back to the ship (at least an hour). The traffic tends to get backed up along the 7MB area especially if there are a lot of ships in port that day.

Rum Point is really pretty, but the day we were there, it was packed. However, the drive there is so pretty and you're going to be going off in the direction where there are really no crowds at all. There's a little shop called Pure Art that is about a mile from the port area (on the left side of the road as you leave George Town. It had some of the neatest local crafts and paintings that we found anywhere on the island. It's located in an old house, and the front of the house faces the side street, not the main street you are on. You could also stop at the blow hole area, which is not far from the Lighthouse Restaurant (where you could have lunch).

The drive to Rum Point will take you past the botanical gardens. You could stop there. It seems like it took us about 45 minutes to drive to Rum Point. Rum Point is really pretty...very tropical. It looks like what you would think a tropical island would look like...lots of palm trees. They also have a nice restaurant there (I think it's called The Wreck) and the food was really good.

If you really want to soak up sun, I wouldn't go to Rum Point. There are so many trees, it's hard to find a place that's in the sun, assuming you can even get a chair (we never did, it was packed). And if you want to see a part of the island that most won't, then I'd rent a car and drive to Rum Point. But the drive to Rum Point is really fun. You can stop along the way and sightsee.

If all you really want to to is park it, eat, and sit under the sun, then I'd do Sea Grape.

This is just my little ole' opinion...whatever you do, have a wonderful time! I love Grand Cayman so much...it's so pretty there, and the locals are so nice. :)

I second Sea Grape. Just tell the cabbie to take you there. Don't let him take you somewhere else. It will cost about $4-5 per person each way. Has food, drink, sun, water, everything you will need. That is my suggestion.
