Ship Doesn't Wait for You if Ship Excursion is Late?

Am I reading this incorrectly? It seems that if the ship excursion is late, the ship is going to continue and they will catch you up to the ship. Huh? Since when doesn't the ship wait for it's own excursions?

There are occasionally times when its impossible to delay departure - tides, availability of pilots,  another ship waiting for the berth, upcoming storms etc ad infinitum.

If you're on a ship-sponsored excursion you are the responsibility of the cruise line - they will do their damnest to wait and usually can - but if they can't it's their responsibility to feed you, provide overnite accommodation, provide  necessities, and get you to the next port. Usually some compo too.

This applies to all cruise lines, not just Celebrity.

And the risk is grossly over-played
