Cabbage Beach or Cable Beach?

My husband, 2 kids (ages 3 and 5) and I will be in Nassau in early May on the Majesty of the Seas. We dock there from 8am to midnight. We are looking for a beach (free!) to hang out at for a little while and I have read conflicting reports of Cabbage Beach and Cable Beach.

Is there construction on Cabbage Beach? Is it best to skip it?

If we go to Cable Beach, can we use the beach for free or do we have to be a hotel guest?

Are there other beaches that are inexpensive and have restrooms and water sports (like kayaks, floats, etc.)

Thanks!

The Public beach at Cabbage Beach is not near any construction. The construction (on the beach) is west past the current Atlantis towers, and on the far eastern end of the island. The construction doesn't bother beachgoers, but it does cause leeching into the sea, thus destroying wildlife and reefs.

Cabbage Beach is accessible by a pathway over the dunes next to the RIU. You can rent beach chairs and umbrellas, and there's a daiquri shack nearby. No restrooms or changing rooms, although some people sneak into the RIU. This is supposed to change soon, but I don't know a timeline. Cabbage Beach waters can get rough at times, and this beach closes regularly in windy weather.

Some hotels allow access to their beaches, on the premise that you will spend money of concessions, souveneirs and the casino. You can use the Wyndham or Nassau Beach Hotel Beaches on Cable Beach at the moment, but these hotels are under new management, so we don' t know for sure what they will allow in the future.

THere's a public beach next door to the Nassau Beach Hotel, I'm sure you can use free of charge. Kayaks, jetskis etc are independent, so anyone can pay to use them.

Cable Beach waters are calmer, and generally better for young children.

There's a public beach downtown just west of town (lighthouse beach). Depending on the day, (mostly weekends) you can rent a chaise, towels etc. and use the beach. There's a couple of food vendors nearby. There's a restroom also, but not sure what hours it's open. Calm waters here, since this is an inner harbour beach

The Hilton allows cruisers to use the facilities for $15 pp. This is a small quiet hotel. Small pool, tiny sliver of beach. Nice serene spot for sunbathing or reading. This is not a party place. No resort games, bingo etc. If your kids are fine with making sandcastles and catching guppies then this would be OK.. but like I said.. this is a calm, quiet environment. They have a couple of kayaks or waterbikes for use.

Calm waters / inner harbour.
