sussex blue Posted June 28, 2023 #1 Share Posted June 28, 2023 Just returned from Enchanted Princess which called at Genoa. From opposite Genoa port there is a free metro line that will get you to the centre of Genoa (4 stops). So don't pay for an expensive cruise shuttle or taxi. BTW, we had a great time on Enchanted Princess. Top notch in all aspects. Best Regards Neil 3
CaliSun15 Posted July 2, 2023 #2 Share Posted July 2, 2023 Wished we had known this 😉 We were just there with MSC and walked to the center of town. It wasn't too bad.

We are excited about our upcoming cruise (also on the Enchanted Princess!). Genoa is going to be a "free" day for us without any official tour plans. I'm wondering if you might remember any details about that free metro line to take us to/from the city center. Anything you can remember would be very helpful. Thanks! sussex blue Posted August 24, 2023 Author #4 Share Posted August 24, 2023 You might try to ask for directions to the metro station at the cruise terminal tourist information desk. But they may be reluctant to tell you as the taxi operators and shuttle bus will lose trade. The lady who directly us was told off by a taxi company official for doing so (my wife understands Italian so overheard this). But it is very easy to find. The metro station opposite the port is named 'Principle'. Exit the cruise terminal building and walk under the autostrada flyover, cross the road and walk northwards up the road opposite in the direction of the bus stops/bus station. The metro station is directly behind the bus station (hopefully you will see the 'M' sign). This is about a 2 or 3 minutes walk from the cruise terminal building. Take the escalator or steps down to the metro station and the line heading towards 'De Farrari', which is 4 stops. De Ferrari station is right in the centre of the city from where you can walk round at leisure. Genoa was one of the highlights of our cruise. Have a great time there. 1
euro cruiser Posted August 24, 2023 #5 Share Posted August 24, 2023 (edited) Principe is the name of the station, you can find it on google maps using the following coordinates: 44.41629572622101, 8.919439125764601 It's located 300 meters/two-tenths of a mile on foot from the cruise port, you can make a google map to see the walking directions. Don't confuse the metro station with the Trenitalia Piazza Principe railroad station, which is nearby but the same place. It helps to get the entire story. The metro in Genova is free between the hours of 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM, and from 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM. According to the official website, this is an "experiment", so don't assume it will still be in effect when you are there, check to be sure. The offical page is linked below, but in Italian only. Google translate will get you the gist of the information, and if you scroll down you can see a map of the metro system. Metropolitana | AZIENDA MOBILITA' E TRASPORTI SpA (amt.genova.it) Even if the experiment ends and you have to pay, it's very inexpensive at 1,50 euro per ticket: Biglietti | AZIENDA MOBILITA' E TRASPORTI SpA (amt.genova.it) Those in Genoa recently may have found that the metro was closed for upgrades. It just reopened a couple of days ago, two weeks ahead of schedule. Da martedì 22 agosto la metropolitana torna in servizio (amt.genova.it) Edited August 24, 2023 by euro cruiser 1
