Carnival Mardi Gras internet options

We are getting on the Mardi Gras this coming Saturday, 19 August I am debating if I should buy any of the Internet plans we all have iPhones and I’ve been told we could use instant messenger to communicate while we’re on the ship. Do I still need to buy Internet to use instant messenger any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

ios messenger may work, but it's not guaranteed.

you can buy just the $5 chat option in the carnival hub, to use while onboard.

My family and I communicated via iMessage last week on the Vista without any problems. No internet plan needed. I have found the Chat feature to be unreliable.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  It is unintentional by Carnival when it does.

We found that we received notifications (imessage, Office 365 email) without internet.  But you can't read them in the apps and you couldn't send.  Weird.
