Cunard US market - incurance

Hello all. Quick question 8first timer with Cunard). i noticed, while trying to book via UK website, that an incurance covering GBP2.000.000 for medical expenses is required and it can only be issued to UK residents (we are not). Does something similar apply if booking through the US market? Or there are no compulsory requirements for insurance, as is the case of European Market?

Thanks

For USA markets there is just a recommendation to get insurance. For European (other than UK) market, there is a (basic) compulsory insurance levy inside the booking process, that can be topped up if needed.

For the UK market then it's a requirement to get insurance, I've never been asked to show it though, there again I'm not visibly in compromised health, thankfully. I once boarded with a monster black eye and nothing was said at check-in (quite a lot was said onboard though!). Mainstream UK insurance firms won't normally insure non UK residents, but some specialist firms do it (mainly for UK expats) or will get brokers to quote. USA travel insurance isn't so well developed a market as the UK, but it can be found and would meet the UK Cunard requirement, I have a friend who does exactly that.

Thank you! That is what I thought. Thanks to a special offer, despite being an EU resident, I will book through US then. Thanks again!

Staysure Expat cover "Brits living in France, Spain or Portugal". If you don't fall within that they are no use. They do cover non Brit spouses/partners living in those countries if a Brit takes out the cover.

Before they resumed their offering after Brexit, I looked into other alternatives.

US company Seven Corners appeared to offer cover that might have been suitable. In the end we got Staysure so didn't use them, and I've no experience of them. I did read a positive press review, which was what prompted me to check them out.

The New York Times travel column just had a very unflattering column about Seven Corners.

Not flattering, certainly, but not exactly damning, either. Having spent a lot of time recently reading up on travel insurance, I should think that here, as in so many things, the devil is in the details:  read your policy very, very carefully, every last word of it, and make sure you understand exactly what’s covered and what’s not, and what steps you need to take when an insurance case occurs. (More easily said than done, I realize.) The case in the Times does not appear to be a straightforward instance of the insurance company reneging on the contract.
