Onboard credit question

Recommended Posts

Yes, if you sign up for the prepaid tipping onboard. You can't use it to prepay your tips before you leave. I've used my credit for tips onboard. You fill out the gratuity sheet and turn it in at the guest relations (formerly purser's) desk.

Just so I have things straight, tips on the account are charged just like drinks or the specialty restaurant and is not considered a cash advance on the credit card if we exceed the amount of our on board credit-is that correct? Thanks.

You are correct. The tips are just like any other ship purchase - drinks, spa, etc. At the end of your cruise, you will get a copy of your ship board expenses to review before debarking. If you go over your onboard credit amount, the excess will show up as a lump sum on your credit card.

You're correct that tips show up like a regular expense and not a cash advance. Similarly, if you need cash during your cruise, you can get it at the casino cage and it will be debited to your room as a purchase. We did this on our last cruise and it was a good way to avoid carrying too much cash or paying silly ATM fees.

You will probably be able to periodically check your seapass account on the TV in your room as well.

It seems like nearly every time I try to check it on the TV, the system is down. If I have problems accessing the TV screen, I look for a short line at the purser's desk and ask for a printout. The line is usually short early in the morning before excursions or when we just get back from shore. I think evenings right before or after dinner are the worst times.
