ciabelle Posted September 21, 2023 #1 Share Posted September 21, 2023 Sailing on the Koningsdam soon on a casino match offer. Drinks for 2 while playing is part of the package. Do we need to wait for a server to come around while playing to receive these drinks like in Vegas, or do we just go to the casino bar. Is there a certain amount that must be played prior to getting a drink? I intend to spend the evening hours at the craps table most nights, but wondering if it's practical to play a couple spins on a penny slot machine, get a glass of wine, and then take it to the MDR for dinner -- Or if that's far more trouble than it's worth vs. just buying it in the MDR? Onto craps, when buying or laying numbers, do you pay a vig up front -- win or lose, or is it only paid on your winnings?
sailawayward Posted September 21, 2023 #2 Share Posted September 21, 2023 (edited) i have no knowledge about the casino match, but you can certainly enter the MDR with beverages purchased from other parts of the ship. Dobby36 Posted September 21, 2023 #3 Share Posted September 21, 2023 Ive had some of these offers, but more frequently have traveled with a drink package. it shouldn’t be more trouble than it’s worth to get a drink at the casino when you are on your way somewhere else if you are OK to sit down for 5 mins and plays some penny slots. However, if it’s a crowded evening that 5 mins could turn to 15. in all restaurants/bars on the ship, you hand over your keycard to get a drink, regárdless of having a package. The exception is in the casino, where your card will be in the slot machine or sometimes with a dealer if you have just joined a table. Therefore, the severs in the casino (who are stationed at the adjacent bar where you can also walk up to order drinks) are used to taking down your cabin number and name instead of using your card. In my experience they get to remembering you quite quickly, even if you aren’t a high roller or spending all day in there. But I stick out from the typical HAL cruiser demographic. I’ve always mentioned that I have free casino drinks and it’s worked out fine for me. I usually stay for a while but nobody seems to notice or mind if you wander elsewhere with a drink. can’t answer the craps question, I just play slots and roulette and blackjack. Sorry. Mosaic Posted September 21, 2023 #4 Share Posted September 21, 2023 Casino drinks are only supposed to be had only WHILE playing. You usually cannot get them at the casino bar, for example. The bar tenders do come around....sometimes not very often...

If you're at the craps table, you could just ask the croupier to get someone over to take your drink order. When I was at the table on the Rotterdam they came by and didn't bother asking for the room card, just because I was playing. That was after playing a while, but since you have the offer for free drinks anyway you should be able to get them anytime.
oceanbill457 Posted September 22, 2023 #7 Share Posted September 22, 2023 There is no vigs on place bets. Your best source on how to play craps is Color Up , which can be found on You Tube,
cwd79 Posted September 22, 2023 #8 Share Posted September 22, 2023 We played Craps every night on our 11 day cruise that ended earlier this month on the Zaandam. Can attest that there were no vigs on place bets. We bet the pass or do not pass line etc.
