~*Lou*~ Posted October 6, 2023 #1 Share Posted October 6, 2023 Hi, we are in Tauranga in January and the Zealandia tour to Hobbiton is fully booked for our date, and our cruise line doesn't offer ship-sponsored tours to Hobbiton. Is it a reasonable idea to rent a car for the day and drive ourselves to Hobbiton? I understand once we're there, we join a tour group, and I'd need to book that in advance? We are in port 8am-6pm. Many thanks for any suggestions.
homeoliphant Posted October 6, 2023 #2 Share Posted October 6, 2023 www.cruisetourstauranga.co.nz Have you looked at this site? Some on our cruise have looked into this firm and they have been really good at answering questions. info@cruisetourstauranga.co.nz
Rare Anoynmous Phoenix Posted October 24, 2023 #3 Share Posted October 24, 2023 If you are Lord of the Rings "groupies" then a visit to Hobbiton is a must. Make every effort to get to Matamata from Tauranga and join in the fun. However if you will be an extra day or two in NZ go there from Auckland and then "do" Rotorua from Tauranga.
