I told my daughter i would throw this question out there and hopefully get some great advice. We are spending 2 days in rome then 12 days on the liberty. My 19 year old son and my daugters 23 yr old boyfriend are joining us .They have asked how many pairs of dressier type pants and what type of shirts they should pack. They both have suits for the formal evenings but are curious about acceptable dress codes. We have done 2 caribean cruises but this is our first europe.I certainly dont expect them to buy entire new wardrobes of clothes they wont wear again but i dont want them to feel out of place.any suggestions??????

Did this cruise last year. DH wore dockers and Golf Type polos for dinner, this was fine.

As far as the rest of the cruise these are some suggestions:

Make sure to carry a sweater or a large scarf (women) for entering the churches and basillicas, if you are wearing spagetti strap tops or sleeveles. Some places have paper things but I found it easier to just keep a light jacket with me, in my backpack. Pretty much shorts were ok for both of us.

Also DH strayed away from wearing the typical American Type, shirts with a lot of LOGOS on them (IE Broncos, Avalanche). This was suggested by others who had been to Europe or lived in Europe. We took the advice.

We did a lot of walking so make sure you have good shoes.

There's only two formal nights on the 12 day cruise. I believe that the past guest party was asked for business casual (that was on the night in Barcelona)

Only suggestion I can make is to make sure you have covered shoulders for going into the churches and such. They didn't seem to mind the shorts as much during the later ports of call. (Pisa and Barcelona come to mind)

I've traveled to Rome & other parts of Europe, but never been on a Med. cruise. My opinion is jeans & tennis shoes are fine but it makes you seriously look like a tourist & feel uncomfortable in places like the Vatican. I wore black skirts and basic tops with scarfs to mix it up. Dressier than typical American wear. My husband & father wore Dockers, mostly in black but a bit of khaki too & button up shirts. When are you going? I've heard it is MISERABLE in Rome in August and even the locals wear next to nothing.
