rjf32 Posted March 23, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 23, 2006 I am wanting to do the dolphin swim in puerto aventuras. I think it is too risky to do it on my own and would thus like to book it through rccl. However, on rccl's website this excursion is already full. I was wondering if I am able to book it on the cruise ship? If so is it hard to do that and does it cost more?
cmich068 Posted March 23, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 23, 2006 If it's full, it's probably full, unless they keep spots open for onboard. There is no higher price, just go to the Explorations Desk when it first opens and find out if there are spots.
on the square Posted March 23, 2006 #3 Share Posted March 23, 2006 you can book it on board but as you already said it is sold out. what you can do is go to the excursion desk as soon as it opens and see if anyone has canceled if not you will most likley be put on a waiting list. rjf32 Posted March 23, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted March 23, 2006 how can I find out if they keep spots open for onboard? And if it is full and they put me on a waiting list what is the likelyhood of us actually getting it?
cmich068 Posted March 23, 2006 #7 Share Posted March 23, 2006 1) you can't 2) depends if somebody cancels (it does happen), and if others are ahead of you on the waiting list.
wrp96 Posted March 23, 2006 #8 Share Posted March 23, 2006 If you absolutely want to do this excursion and want even a chance of doing it through RCCL, what I can recommend is keep looking every day to see if a spot comes open - i.e. somebody might cancel before the cruise even takes place. If a spot doesn't come open, then be the very first people to board the ship and immediately go to the explorations desk to see if there are any spots being held for booking onboard. If not, ask to be put on the waitlist. It is unlikely though that a spot will open up once you are onboard.
kyak Posted March 23, 2006 #9 Share Posted March 23, 2006 I was told that RCI keeps 35% of the tickets for excursions for availability/sale once you get on the cruise ship. In this case, as soon as you get there, run to guest relations and see what they have available.
cmich068 Posted March 23, 2006 #10 Share Posted March 23, 2006 It makes sense for RCCL to sell all inventory online first, so if it sells out, it's a guarenteed sell out... however, those who dont know about booking them online would be pissed, so,

I've heard they occasionally keep a couple of spots back but not 35% and not always. In fact I've seen it where they've sold out excursions so early they didn't even bother to print them in the cruise document booklets.
