Aussie lost in space Posted February 26 #1 Share Posted February 26 Hi everyone just reaching out as I am reading conflicting advice regarding taking prescribed medications into Japan on both the Japan Ministry of health and the Australian government website, for travel to Japan. I have 2 Doctors letters (one from GP and one from a specialist) outlining what medications, dosage etc I am taking. I will carry with me 1 month supply. From everything I have read, if I am taking up to 1 month supply, as long as I have a Doctors letter outlining everything, I don't need to apply for the form. However there is specific reference to Minoxidil on the Japan Ministry of health advice (in a word document outlining the form). Neither my specialist Doc nor GP informed me that I needed to do anything more. My GP is part of a clinic that specialises in 'travel'. Meds I am unsure of, as far as do I need to apply for a Yunyu Kakunin-sho form via the Japan Ministry of health include Mersyndol (& Mersyndol Forte), Panadeine - all painkillers, and Minoxidil. Along with Plaquenil (malaria based tablet). I'd appreciate any feedback, recommendations or ideas.

thehowlingroad Posted February 27 #3 Share Posted February 27 This is the list I'm using: https://www.ncd.mhlw.go.jp/dl_data/keitai/list.pdf. It's from the Narcotics Control Department website. From what I understand, if your active ingredients are not on this list, then you don't need the Yunyu Kakunin-sho form for those medications, just make sure you're bringing less than a month's supply, and ideally, you could bring them in their original prescription bottles.

Thanks so much Sharon. I have sent an email to the Japan ministry of health outlining everything, just to be sure. Just keen to know what others are doing as Japan seems to be 'more restricted' in terms of what is acceptable to bring in. I'll take a look at your link too, thanks for your response, it is greatly appreciated.
Belgian fry Posted March 1 #5 Share Posted March 1 I wrote to yakkan@mhlw.go.jp with a list of our medicines. I'l glad I did because my husband's blood thinner requires the Yunyu Kakunin-sho certificate
