Western Caribbean Explorer Tours-Straight from the Ship?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone done any of the tours where the tour boat picks you up directly from the ship at a tender port? Sounds like a great way to start your tour right away rather than deal with the tender issue. If you have, do they then stop at other cruise ships as well or do they start the tour right away? And, would anyone personally recommend them?

When we did Western last year we were told no tours could be picked up at the ship. This decsion was made after 9/11. It would have helped in Belize esp. since we took the tender to the port... got the excursion went past the ship and then came past it again when returning to the port to get the tender.

We did a snorkel tour, booked through the ship, in Belize last year. The snorkel boat picked us up at the ship and returned us to the ship. It was very nice to not have to tender in and meet at the pier.

We did the Rendezvous Caye snorkel tour as well a couple of years ago. The boat picked us up at the ship but dropped us off downtown. We shopped around a bit and had lunch then tendered back to the ship from there.

We took the 4x4 Land Rover/Caving excursion (offered by RCCL, not independent) on Explorer last year and we were returned to the ship directly from the tour. We had to take a tender to shore in the morning, but the return to the ship directly was spectacular. We came out of the mouth of a river on a high-speed boat and came right up to the Explorer before she sailed. We had plenty of time.

Which island was that excursion on?
