FredS Posted March 25, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 25, 2006 Empress of The North ran aground in the Comumbia River. There were 250 people on board and no injuries. They took everyone off by using her sister ship. These are sternwheelers that have 7 day trips on the Columbia and Snake Rivers in Washington and Oregon. http://famulus.msnbc.com/famulusgen/ap03-24-151637.asp?t=apnew&vts=32420061942
tequilasunrise Posted March 25, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 25, 2006 I saw this story...they pulled to the side to let a barge pass. Unfortunately, although the Columbia is a big river, there are a few places where there are hidden sandbars...and they found one. Last word is they are expected to be freed with no harm done. saltycaptn Posted March 25, 2006 #3 Share Posted March 25, 2006 Yes, I saw this on TV just a few minutes ago. What a terrible week for Maritime accidents... The sinking of the Queen of the North up in Prince Rupert, BC. The Star Princess Fire and now the Empress. Unbelievable! Saltycaptn
derf5585 Posted March 25, 2006 #4 Share Posted March 25, 2006 The 360-foot cruise ship with more than 200 people on board ran aground near Washougal, Wash; there were no injuries, the vessel wasn't sinking and a tugboat would be used to refloat it. Once refloated the vessel will be towed to Washougal, where the passengers will be put ashore. from http://www.cruisejunkie.com/events.html
