Concierge kids snacks

no need to sneak the kids into the lounge at other times...they are ALWAYS welcome to join you there for breakfast in the mornings, and it is a wonderful spot to enjoy a crowd-free morning meal (unless you like bacon and eggs, which we do not...)

Maybe it was different on your cruises. My cruises I´ve been on and enjoyed the concierge service have been clear about that.

The door sign as well as the welcome letter stated:

"We do however advise our guests that the lounge is for adults only and that all guests age 18 and above are welcome."

You can read the whole letter at:

Nothing about this only applying in the evening !!! Neither in the letter nor on the door sign.

Unless this rule is given only for the hosted evening hours I stick to my term of sneaking in. If the concierge allows to break his own rules, OK, it´s up to him/her as the host of the lounge.

BTW I don´t care if there are kids in there or not, I´m just stating the rules that applied on my cruises and according to these rules it´s sneaking in.

When you have any only child who is grown you tend to spend a lot of time together and I felt bad about leaving her in the stateroom down the hall - but I guess I will. Maybe she will meet up with that nice 17 year old boy who made of the threesome in an earlier post.

I understand that if it was the two of you,of course, you want to spend time together doing stuff...........so who says you have to go to the concierge lounge at all??If I were travelling with my child(who wasnt old enough to go in),I wouldnt even bother........I'd do something we both could do rather than leave her alone in the stateroom..

I have never seen children in the Concierge Lounge, at any time. I just can't understand why some people feel they are "above" the rules. If it says 0VER 18, that is the rule. Live with it......

Sort of like the ones, who let their kids in the hot tubs or solarium area.......

I agree..a rule is a rule....what I disagree with is the personal attack.

I don't see myself as above the rules...

but I am ABOVE RUDENESS AND PERSONAL ATTACK - which IMHO are much worse than breaking a rule.

Evidently it's the choice of the Concierge as to who is allowed in the lounge. I'm looking at my welcome letter now, which we received on the Navigator two weeks ago and it states the lounge is adult only in the evenings, kids welcome during the day with adult supervision. There was a gold plate outside of the lounge which also stated no one under 18 in the evenings and our Concierge did on two occasions when we were there greet families at the door and respectfully tell them of the no children policy, and on one occasion went to a table where three teenagers and two adults were seated and ask the teens to leave, which they did with no problem. One of them had a beer lol. Guess the parents were OK with that. I assumed the reason was because the liquor bottles were out and it was an open bar. The atmosphere isn't kid condusive anyway, kind of formal, just quiet converstations going on. I'd have been bored stiff if my parents had made me sit there quietly for an hour before dinner when I was a child. Anyway, whatever the policy on your ship enjoy every minute :) .

With all of that said ... we often stay at the Ritz Carlton at club level, and our 11 & 13 year old are always welcome, at any time. We enjoy the company of our children; they are mature and carry on interesting conversation. It is our vacation and a time when we can all relax away from work and the rigourous academic schedule of private school, together. I realize a lot of kids do not behave. I believe it's because they were never exposed or taught how to behave. It irks me that so many people are anti kid, we were all kids once. A lot of adults don't know how to behave. However, on the Navigator we complied with the after 5, no one under 18 rule. Our boys enjoyed a quick snack before taking off for our excursions in the morning. My Husband and I enjoyed a martini before dinner, while the kids went off to Johnny Rockets or Windjammer for drinks & apps. What really bothered us - the one and only thing on the cruise - was the smoking in the lounges. Had we not had concierge access (no smoking in concierge lounge), we would not have gone into the bars for drinks. I'm from Connecticut where smoking is banned indoors. I strongly believe that the concierge lounge should be accessible to everyone in the party booked in the category. Our boys couldn't go in after excursions to borrow a movie because it was after 5, and we were told no. How handsome they looked in formal wear and they were asked to leave. The lounge is not a place to congregate for hours, just to simply sit and enjoy a refreshment before dinner. This was our first cruise; we never have had to exclude the kids when staying at club level in wonderful hotels around the world.

I can´t see what it has to do with how well behaved kids are or not, or if kids are allowed in the matching areas in hotels.

If the hotel allows the kids in there OK. What has this to do with RCCL saying 18 or above for the CL on their ships???

If there is a rule 18 or above it has nothing to do with how well behaved a kid under 18 or an adult above 18 is. Not the behaviour is the limiting factor but the age.

The rules are set by the hosts in this case the cruiseline and maybe the Concierge has free hand to bend them or not.

It should be quite easy to understand unless one is looking for a way around this and searching for arguments to do this.

Dear Parrot Head

Your suggestions are not welcome... I really don't care what you think. As I said I believe every paying customer should be allowed in the lounge.

I respect your opinion that you believe every paying customer should be allowed in the lounge, but the reality is different and RCCL restricts the access to paying customers to 18 or above. So you can complain about this of course but unless the rule is changed it´s still a rule and has to be followed in my eyes.

Probably the same applies in your eyec for access to the casino, gambling in there, playing Bingo unattended by an adult, use the Solarium pools and whirlpools, etc. All these should be open to your kids too as they are paying customers, correct?

I do not frequent the casino and I don't think that is any comparison to the lounge!

So I understand as you and your party don´t frequent the casino it´s OK to restrict paying passengers from it, while it´s not OK for the CL as you and your party use it:rolleyes: Interesting;)

Madforcruising - They must have different letters for different concierges, because I have seen the same letter but with the words "under 18 are welcome before 5pm". It actually surprised me when I saw the other letters allowing under 18 before 5pm because I was always under the impression that it was for 18 and older.

I do have children under 18, we will be staying in a GS on FOS, so I will be interested to see waht my letter says when I receive it.

Hi Liz,

I will try to find out, though I don´t know if the lounge is in full function already on this cruise and if I can meet the concierge to ask. I was about to ask you already if you got an invitation for the Freedom when she is in Southampton. I´ve seen some people from the UK posting that they got invitations to visit the ship.

I´ll make sure you will here from me when I´m back.

Wow - very heated conversation. We are not talking about a bar on the ship .. we are talking about the concierge lounge. We were not breaking any rules, we complied with the after 5. I just think that if they wanted a soda they should be able to get one and enjoy it with us. I would never consider bringing kids to the casino .. I wouldn't even go. I wouldn't bring them to a bar or adult show in the evening either. We enjoyed those times as a couple. But as I said before, from my previous experiences, concierge was available anytime and I was surprised to learn of the rule....but complied. Very rude people here.. just trying to warn other parents what to expect. I have to say we met so many nice people on our cruise, unfortunately not here in this forum.

Don't forget - there are 2 concierge lounges on FOS - one for Diamond / D+ and one for suite guests. Francois Roux is running the latter, and I know Frenchie tends to enforce the "no kids after 5pm" rule.

I´m sure they have and I don´t doubt this for a minute, that´s why I always tried to make clear that I speak about the cruises I´ve been on.

I´ve been fortunate enough to not only meet great people on the cruises but also here on the boards. And it was a pleasure to meet them in person on the cruises then.

That´t interesting, I had not heard about this and had a close look at the deck plan right now. I can only locate one Concierge lounge on deck 10 on the deck plans. Can you tell me where the other one will eb and which one will be for which group, thanks.

Hi - I'm not sure where the second lounge is located. Francois explained there were 2 when we saw him back in Jan on Navigator, just before he was leaving the ship to go to Freedom to set things up. It could be that they will just adapt one of the peripheral rooms on the Viking Crown Lounge deck, like they sometimes do on Voyager class ships when the standard concierge lounge gets too full. We shall see!

Thanks, something else to find out in April:D . There is a place called Diamond Club in the Viking Crown area. Maybe that´s the one for diamond members, would be a very nice location;)
