Halibut Fishing

Going Alaska first time aboard Norwegian Sky sailing 9 Sept 24 out of Seattle Ports are:

1. Icy Strait Point

2. Sitka

3. Skagway

4. Juneau 

5. Ketchikan 

6. Vancouver 

 

Does anyone have recommendations on Halibut Fishing trip this time year. I think Norwegian has an excursion out of Ketchikan. Has anyone been on that one or has booked their own?

Icy Strait Point or Sitka have the best halibut fishing.

The two places we have caught halibut in Alaska are just as @wolfie11 suggested - Icy Strait Point and Sitka. In Icy Strait we went with Glacier Wind - captain Sean. But I think they only do whale watching trips now. You would have to check - maybe he would do a fishing charter. We reserved the whole boat for our party if 6. In Sitka, we rented a boat and gear and fished on our own.

Just an FYI when you are picking your port, all halibut fishing is closed to keeping/ shipping home on Wednesdays in south central Alaska. (Catch and release only)
