In spite of all the rude responses, this question isn't all that strange. On our first trip to NY we were having lunch at Carmine's and when our tiramisu came out a lady at the next table leaned over, commented on how good it looked, and ask for a taste. So, as the saying goes, it never hurts to ask.

However, in this situation, I think I too wouldn't feel comfortable letting you sit in my room to watch TV if I didn't know you beforehand.

And it never fails to amaze me that people insist on responding to threads that they believe are "stupid" or feel the need to try and make someone else feel insignificant because they asked a question. If only all of us were so enlightened and smart!!

I don't understand the rude responses, either, Sounds too much like the rude responses that new posters get on another cruise line board here on CC! I would have let someone sample my tiramisu, but probably wouldn't let you into my Cat. 12 cabin to view your wedding video. I would probably think that you were going to try to sell me Amway or a time share! I think the DVD idea is your best bet. Good luck, and enjoy your anniversary cruise!

Interesting. I am also married 10 years and I think we only watched our video once when we got it. Frankly I paid alot of $$ for it and we both thought it was not shot that well. I just like having it but never watch it. Plus I can't bear to see the people in it who are gone now. But I think it is so sweet that you watch it every year and I sure hope you find a VCR to use.

I want to thank everyone again for your replies.

I may be a new poster but I am by no means new to this board, I am usually on here every day. Some of the posters on this board are the reason I don't post much, but the majority of you I knew would give me helpful advise. So thank you to those that helped.

I am looking into putting my video onto a DVD, which is not a bad idea anyway.

I am still glad that I posted this because now I won't make a fool out of myself.

So thank you.

It amazes me that there are so called adults who will insult people for asking a sincere innocent question, or threaten to slam doors in peoples faces. And yet they would call for the death penalty for a 5 year old who runs in a hall, splashes in the pool, or pushes buttons in an elevator.

Does this mean I win?, icon_smile.gif Oh, and what's wrong with death penalty to the five year old running or pushing elevator buttons?

icon_biggrin.gif I can record it "on cd" an play it back on every cruise!

I don't think people's responses here are being rude. The poster asked what their reaction would be and they are clearly stating it. Their reaction may be rude but the response is in answer to the question.

I don't think its rude either. I think it's not nearly as rude as knocking on a stranger's door and ask to use their VCR to watch a 10-yr old video. Jeez, it's not as though they haven't had a chance to see it before or after the cruise. It's my vacation, my space. You want the VCR? You pay for it.

Furthermore, what guarantee would you have that that's why they really want to gain entrance to your suite? Sure, it might sound sweet in theory, but it could be a con to "case the joint" or steal something.

I would definitely NOT allow entry. Moreover, I'd be quite suspicious and would avoid those people for the rest of the cruise.

*spewing coffee* Tef tell us how you "really" feel LOL.

For the OP. If you were in a hotel, would you do this? Knock on someones door to see if you could use their VCR? Just curious.

As as for the suggestion about asking your tablemates? How is that different? You're still "imposing" AND someone might feel "obligated".

I personally would feel uncomfortable letting a stranger in and would also decline.

However it takes just as much time to politely say no and leave it at that as it does saying something nasty and slamming a door.

I was just saying in my post, that if a child acts rudely, or makes noise or plays in an elevator he is a brat, the parents have poor parenting skills, this is the beginning of the end of civilization as we know it.

But when an adult behaves poorly What do you call that?

I have to say that I may be naiive, but I also believe that Teff as well as Liv, have barks worse than their bites and I don't believe that Tef would actually slam a door in anyone's face.

For all you who took him literally, shame on you.

You should probably just contact the audio/video folks on board the ship. They would probably have a vcr you could borrow for a little while.

How much do you value that tape? Bring a copy. Better yet, bring it on a media you can "play" in your own room. (Go ahead and adjust the punctuation on that sentence!

jdockery-

Welcome to the Carnival Board, you really jumped in with both feet huh!

Yeah, it would be pretty dang tacky to come knocking on someones door asking to use the VCR alright. I don't think you need to anyway. Each ship is equipped or can be equipped with meeting and convention equipment such as an overhead projector, VCR, Television and the like if they know in advance.

First call should be to Carnival's Guest Relations Department. You can email them at grelations@carnival.com or call them direct and toll free at 1-800-929-6400 Monday through Friday 8:30AM to 6:30PM EST and 9:00AM to 5:30PM on Saturdays.

This is where I would always start with just about any special request like this that sounds like something they should be able to do but that they don't do on a regular basis.

The people in the Guest Relations Department are tops and eager to please. We learned about them first-hand on a cruise shortly after DW had come through some cancer surgery and they got wind of it. They were all over it and couldn't do enough to be helpful. Finding you a VCR would be small potatoes to them, I'd just bet on it.

Another solution would be to bring your own VCR.

Yes, I'm serious.

They have some really small ones at Sam's club for like $40 that you could carryon and easily hook up to any cabin's tv.

Then you could watch your movie over and over and relive those wedding day memories without anybody watching :::read between lines here:::Better yet, bring a camcorder and make your own video right there on the ship!

I'm getting carried away now right?

Happy Cruising
