Seydisfjordur Cruise Port

Recommended Posts

Looking at private shore excursions for Seydisfjordur.  It seems to be common practice for shore excursion providers not to offer refunds should a cruise ship not be able to dock at the last minute.  These excursions are over $300 per person.  Anyone have any idea how often cruise ships fail to dock here.  I’m sure the same can be said for Djúpivogur.

Are you perhaps only looking at tours offered by middlemen/brokers? Their cancellation policies can be tricky for cruise ship passengers should the ship not make it to port or arrive late as they sometimes want 24 or 48 hours notice.

Middlemen/brokers do not them selves operate tours, only booking you onto tours run by local companies who must then pay a commission to the broker.Booking direct with local companies could offer a better cancellation policy more suited to cruise passengers.

Can only suggest you look at tours operated by local companies and read their cancellation policies very carefully before actually committing.

If you have not already searhed for and read some past threads which might offer some suggestings, choose from these, although there are very few.

We were in Seydisfjordur yesterday. You can book excursions 'on the ground' in the tourist information centre/café located in the cruise terminal building if you don't want to get burned by odd cancellation policies.

We were supposed to visit this port tomorrow. Just got notice we are skipping the port due to weather.

Most the excursions we have booked, refund your money if the ship can’t dock due to weather. On one of our tours, the owner mentioned he had to do that last week.

Did you have an excursion booked in Seydisfjordur?  If so who was it with.  I am looking at Imagine Iceland and there are no refunds inside 24 hours.  Thanks for the info.

We did not have an excursion booked in this port. We did look at Imagine Iceland for other ports but ended up not using them. The companies we used specifically said if the ship doesn’t dock, they refund your money.

This was kind of a hard port, as there didn’t seem to be as many options as the other ports we visited.

  • 5 weeks later...

We stopped in this port in July actually as a last-minute (night before) substitute for Djupivigor, which they cancelled preemptively due to winds and forecast in the area.  Both are tender ports.  I would be nervous to not book either with the cruise line or with an independent operator offering a refund if the ship isn't able to make the port call--seems to happen a lot.  Many providers offer this, some don't.

There were two cruise ships in port the day we went (I'm sure the smaller Oceania ship wasn't pleased to see us!).  As others said, there were some tours still available at the info center.  We opted to do a hike out of town to a small waterfall on our own, and we encountered a number of people from our ship along the way.
