amcwaterfalls Posted July 29 #1 Share Posted July 29 Hi Saga cruisers, Me again, different question. Has anyone used the Portsmouth self parking rather than the Saga ‘chauffeur’ service? If so, where is the car park that Saga uses and what is the luggage handover procedure etc and how far is the walk from the car park to the ship? Thanks for any help again
FatBoy20 Posted July 30 #2 Share Posted July 30 On entry to the Port you drop off luggage & go to area where car is handed over. This is about 50yds from Terminal. On return collect keys from Office in Terminal & Car is parked opposite Terminal Exit (Adjacent to Taxi Pick Up).
amcwaterfalls Posted July 30 Author #3 Share Posted July 30 Thank you FatBoy20, That sounds very straightforward. Is the luggage drop area clearly marked as you enter the port?
DohaBreeze Posted July 30 #4 Share Posted July 30 You usually find there are lots of people in High Viz Vests directing you where you need to be, it is all very simple and straight forward.
nosapphire Posted July 30 #5 Share Posted July 30 Put it this way - in order to miss the luggage drop area, you'd have to run over a lot of human signposts.😊 Self parking with Saga is remarkably easy, they try and make the experience as easy as the included transport experience. Balaena Posted July 30 #7 Share Posted July 30 How does it work in Dover.
tiggis Posted July 30 #8 Share Posted July 30 Actually I did struggle to find the right place for drop-off at Portsmouth. I ended up in the multi-storey (but was fortunately able to drive straight through and start again). Look for the CPS sign above one of the lanes on the right before the multi-storey. i found Dover to be very straightforward for self-parking, both on arrival and departure. nosapphire Posted July 30 #9 Share Posted July 30 Dover is pretty much the same, except that you park the car yourself (next to the terminal) and keep the keys. (Note: this is based on our last visit to Dover, pre-pandemic - so it MAY have changed, but unlikely.) With all the terminals there is the possibility of going wrong if you enter the wrong gate - the departure terminal and gate will be clearly marked on your paperwork, along with the correct postcode for satnav. We found ourselves heading for a multi-storey once (can't remember which Port) so it does happen. That may have been on the same trip where we overshot the motorway exit and then ended up going round in circles in the town centre....in absolutely torrential rain so we could hardly read the signposts... Never have we been so pleased to see a soggy human signpost once we found the right gate.

Dover has changed slightly (or had earlier this month) in that you drop your luggage and then drive into a lane where CPS check your car in. They then drive it away - and actually parked it inside the terminal building. This is then where you collect it from at the end of the cruise- after collecting your keys from the CPS office.
