Copenhagen Check-In

Has anyone traveled from the Freeport Cruise Terminal in Copenhagen? Was wondering what the check-in process was like there. Also, since the Star won't sail away until 9 pm, is it fairly easy to check in, drop stuff off in your cabin, grab lunch at the Horizon, then go off to do sightseeing and return later for sailaway? Not that it would be terrible to hang out on board, mind you, but just thought we'd take advantage of the day in Copenhagen.

Any hints, tips, etc for this embarkation port would be appreciated :)

We sailed this same itinerary last June. We flew into Copenhagen on the morning of sailaway and used the Princess transfer. It was worth the extra money for them to handle our baggage and get us to the ship. We didn't want to deal with taxi's etc after our LONG trip.

The terminal is much the same as ports here at home. If the ship isn't boarding yet, you're assigned a number and then sit in the respective area for check-in. There's a separate area for platinum and suite guests.

After boarding, we dropped off our "carry-on's", had lunch, and headed back out to see Copenhagen. Freeport terminal is pretty far from town, so we grabbed a taxi and had them drop us off right in the middle of the action. We took a boat tour from Nyshavn (sp?) and then walked around for a while. Then a taxi back to the ship. Pretty painless, but we were exhausted by around 5:30.

If you have any more questions, just ask away!

Happy Sailings!

It was 6 years ago so things might have changed, but we had a one night pre-cruise hotel thru Princess and we checked in at the hotel. When we arrived at the dock we just had to pass thru the metal detectors and have our hand baggage x-rays before boarding the ship.

FYI: one of the few great deals to be had in Copenhagen is to take the public water taxi system to see the city by water- much cheaper than any shore excursion only thing there will be one on giving a narration in english. Just watch out for the low bridges. You will have to get real low down in your seats or the cruise will be over real quick. LOL

It is cheaper to do your own hotel in CPH. Fortunately, we ran into Cactusrose (a CC member) just before catching our flight at Seattle and the van cabs were very economical for 4 of us. Almost all hotels will "safely" keep your luggage. We preferred to board around 2:30 pm and there were no lines. The port is not very convenient for public transit even without luggage. So if you board and leave the ship, you may have to take cabs to make good use of your remaining time. /Sultan

Yes - I would advise not arriving at the pier right at 11:30 or so. All the folkss who decided not to come a day early - who's flight arrive VERY early from the US - will be sitting in the chairs waiting for their numbers to be called and board. You's be better off going after the initial crunch is past. Previous posters are correct - you can get off, but you'll want some transport back into the touristed part of town. THe hop on hop off waterbus is great way to see the town and get out on the water. good fun! great cruise
