Western Port Ferry from Phillip Island to French Island?

Can anyone confirm, we can arrive on a cruise ship.  Get to Cowes and take the Western Port Ferry from Phillip Island to French Island?

 

If there are no tours for our day in port, is the island easy enough to walk around ourselves looking for Koala?

 

It appears I can book the ferry online for the day of our arrival to get to French Island and back.

Yes, you can do that fairly easily. Check for bus timetables to see if they suit otherwise the ship may have a shuttle or you could catch a taxi. Once on French Island you could walk although it is a large place. Best to hire a car, bikes or Ebikes.
