Pearl Island Excursion

DH and I did that excursion. It was fun. Left very early in the morning (7:15 am mtg time) due to a short stay in Nassau.

You are taken by boat to a little island/cay where there is a special area for your "treasure hunting" (equipment provided). DH and I both like to snorkel and had luck finding big conch shells (you have to dive down to get them around 10'). We didn't find any oysters but a few people did. After we got a conch shell for ourselves, we went back hunting and picked up a couple more which we gave to kids who had not found anything.

After the snorkel, they have a nice little demo of how to clean and eat conch (complete with samples) and they also open up the oysters to reveal if there's a freshwater pearl inside. If there is, they put your "treasure" in a little satchel for you. They cleaned & polished the conch shells as well.

We also had a great BBQ later in the morning + you get at least 2 drinks while you're there.

All in all a fun day. Not sure it would be quite so enjoyable if you didn't find anything, though, as it's not a cheap excursion. The coral was quite nice & healthy in the "penned" area.

Tour operator was friendly & efficient.

It sure beat shopping in the straw market.;)
