RalphWiggum Posted September 19 #27 Share Posted September 19 (edited) As I said, it’s like UHT milk vs fresh milk. I generally drink fresh milk but when I’m staying at a European hotel, the bottled UHT milk will do. It’s not bad when you want breakfast in your room (slightly sweeter than fresh) and don’t want to go out or pay $40 for room service. Same thing applies with the jarred clotted cream in the US. It’s actually made in the UK, shipped overseas to a US distributor, and then shipped again to a US supermarket. It uses a different heat processing method (fortunately no weird chemicals) for shelf stability, and there is a similar decline in flavor as with UHT milk. But when it’s slathered on a scone with jam, and with no other easy options available, it is fine. It’s way overpriced, though.
