Using a Travel Router to extend WiFi to another device - Arcadia

Has anyone ever used a travel router in their cabin to extend wifi to another device? We have an upcoming sailing on Arcadia and wondering if it’s possible to use our travel router for this purpose. 
If you have used one, could you let me know how you did this please? Thanks in advance.

I have used one in the past and basically you connect to wi-fi on your router and then on another device you log into your account. Once done all other devices can connect. That may not be the proceedure with your router as they are all different. The limitation is that you can only use the internet when in your cabin.

 

There is another option and that is to use your smartphone if you have one. Connect to wi-fi on your phone and log into your account. Then set up your phone as a hotspot (you can do this before joining the ship) then other devices connect to the hotspot. Also means that as long as the other devices are with range of your phone anywhere on the ship they will have wi-fi access. This works perfectly with Starlink and is almost as fast as home broadband and is far simpler, and quicker, to set up.

That's interesting!

I always thought that the host phone had to be connected to mobile data.

Thanks for the help. As @david63 has said, an iPhone can’t “share” WiFi when being used as hotspot, but an android phone can. Luckily my DH and I have one of each, so we’ll connect the android to the ship’s wifi and the iPhone can connect to it. We tried this out at home last night and worked fine. The iPhone was disconnected from wifi and mobile data, and then connected to the android hotspot no problem. 

We’ll take the router with us to try out in the cabin to connect our laptop to. If it doesn’t connect it’s no big deal.
