What is the port like at Nassau?

We will be in Nassau for a day in January 2025.  What is the port itself like? Lots of shopping? Restaurants? Or is it better to book an excursion that includes some shopping?  We love to enjoy the ports.  Cozumel has been the best so far.  Cabo San Lucas, we did not enjoy because it was just one big open air warehouse of souvenirs.

Thanks in advance!

It's been a bit since I've been there, but I doubt it has changed all that much. Yes, there is a lot of shopping, including the straw market, that you can do on your own. You can also explore on your own, and I believe there are some self-guided walking tours you can look into. The "Fish Fry" area has restaurants and is not too far from the pier area. There are also free beach options nearby, or you can book a resort or a tour.
