How to print deck plans?

I'm sure there is an easy way to print deck plans.

I'm trying to print deck plans for Carnival Victory. Somehow I get only half of the plan printed.

Can someone please help a newbie? what am I doing wrong?

Ok, now you all can start laughing...icon_smile.gif

Here's a trick that may work. I didn't try it yet for deck plans, but I use it a lot.

put up your deck plans on your screen;

press "print screen" (after the F12 key),

go to start>programs>accessories>wordpad

once in wordpad, press "ctrl V" (at the same time) and then click the print icon on top.

Like I said I didn't try this for deck plans, but it is a good tip for printing your screen, and you can save it in wordpad when you are finished printing if you want.

Let me know if it works for you.

Good luck

You can ask your t/a to have Carnival mail you a mini-brochure for the Victory - it will have its own deck plan in there. I've gotten them for my Miracle cruise and just received them today for the Valor.

I've had the same problems and tried every trick I can think of, but it's still cutting off the bottom portion of the ship. I've tried reducing, cutting and pasting into notepad and wordpad, using legal paper, emailing it to myself and just printing, etc.

I guess I'll have to ask Carnival, too....

Whew, am I glad to hear that I'm not the only one who can't print those deck plans!

After trying every known to me printer trick I started to question my sanity!icon_smile.gif

Thanks everyone for your responses.

bippytrip, I tried your suggestion. Unfortunately it didn't work for the deck plans: got the same "half" results. But I appreciate your taking time to put it "step-by-step". icon_smile.gif

As for asking TA.. I booked this cruise online through cruisequick.com. No problems at all, have docs in my hand already. Somehow I don't think they would sent any brochure.

Do you think if I call Carnival directly they will send it? I'll give it a try.

Again, thanks a lot.

I've done this...

Go to the website with the deck plan - right click for "save picure" and put it on your desk top.

Go to the desktop and open the pic. Go to "print preview" and click "fit to screen". This "should" give you a printable version although for some reason I have had difficulty sometimes saving it that way. I do have Adobe Acrobat though so most often I will create a pdf file that saves fine.

Hope that works for you!

This works for me.

Open up Word or Works. Go to the Carnival site and bring up the deck you want to print. While on the deck picture right click the mouse and select COPY. Go back to Word (Works), click into a blank document and right mouse click again and select PASTE (or hold down the cnrl key and hit "V" on the keyboard and it will paste the deck plan into the word document). You can adjust the size by clicking on the corner of the picture and moving the cursor in or out. You have to do each deck.

You can print an individual page for each deck - or you can set your paper size to legal - with the page set-up for landscape and paste them one next to the other. I will usually just paste the common decks - no passenger decks unless there is common areas on them. If I have several decks (like for the Conquest class) I will only put half the decks on the page setup. Then make a second page for the rest of the decks. Then when I print I use both sides of the paper - that way I have 1 sheet of paper.

The individual sheets work well if you have a hard tme reading the small print - but you do have several sheets. It does help so you can learn the layout before you go - then you can take the one sheet version with you as reference.

  • 4 months later...

I found that by right clicking on the deck plan and save it to 'my pictures' and then opening it in photosuite you can print the entire deck on an 8x10 sheet, or by playing around with cropping, stretch it out, and print 1/2 on one page, and the rest on another ( much easier to read!)

I hand typed the deck plans into Works, making 4 even columns..decreased the size using the regular ole copier at work (gasp!) till it was the size of my sign and sail card..plan 2 columns for each side..

then I pasted the back and front together, lamenated it and punched a hole at the top. I used a large key hooky/clip thing and clipped to my shorts belt loop the deck plans with my sign and sail card.

I made one for everyone in our group and put it on a lanyard..We all used it alot. If anyone wants the 4 column works document,,email me..rnstyle@bellsouth.net

Here is the Conquest deck plans...

How I print Deck Plans

Go to http://www.carnival.com/CMS/Ships/FunShips.aspx

I'll pick "Paradise"

Click on "Deck Plans"

Right click on image and choose "Save image as"

Were it says "Save In" choose a KNOWN FOLDER.

The image I am working on is called "PAmain2.gif"

And then choose "Save"

Open "Microsoft Word"

Change "View" go down to "Page Layout"

Go to "Insert" go down to "Picture" and across to "From File"

Where it says "Look In" go to your KNOWN FOLDER

Choose your file name "PAmain2.gif"

Then "Insert"

Right click on image and choose "Format Picture"

Choose "Size"

In the box labled "Height" (the upper one) change it to "13" (Legal Size)

Click "OK"

Go to "File" the down to "Page Setup"

Go to the "Margin" tab change top and bottom to 0.2"

I'm sure there are other options but here's what I use

Once I find the ship I'm sailing on it's pretty simple (for me), I use Photoshop for some graphics work. I just highlight each deck plan, copy it (or export it) and paste it in Photoshop.

Then open it in Photoshop, set my page setup for legal, size it to fit the page and print it. Of course not all the printing is legible but I still get a good idea of how to get around.
