Binney Posted April 4, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 4, 2006 Hi, we are taking this 4½ hour excursion: Combine the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Grand Cayman with incredible Stingray City Sandbar in this all-in-one combination excursion. On this excursion you will: Travel the length of 7-Mile Beach and view the miles of white sandy beach and crystal clear blue waters. Experience a guided tour of the Turtle Farm; one of only a few turtle conservation centers in the world, home for the smallest hatchling to some of the largest sea turtles in the world. Be taken to what is known as Hell; an area of exposed rocks, locally termed the Town of Hell because of the lack of life truly portrays what most of us would perceive Hell to look like. Relax on the boat ride out to Stingray City Sandbar where you can stand in the shallow waters, as you swim or snorkel, feed, pet and hold the friendly stingrays. Be provided snorkel equipment and food for the stingrays at no extra cost. Enjoy our complimentary drinks including rum punch and listen to great Caribbean music on your return. Does anyone know if we will have time to shop for souvenirs - like local rums - I've seen some I'd like to buy or ship home? Are the tenders back to the ship ticketed for a certain time? Thanks! Princessbride3 Posted April 5, 2006 #2 Share Posted April 5, 2006 I would love to do this but i dont want to snorkel. I have a fear of water and dont like to get my head wet. Has anyone been on this and just fed the stingrays while they were wading in the shallow water?
beth4652 Posted April 6, 2006 #3 Share Posted April 6, 2006 I would love to do this but i dont want to snorkel. I have a fear of water and dont like to get my head wet. Has anyone been on this and just fed the stingrays while they were wading in the shallow water? I would love to hear some replies to this also. I really want to do the stingray experience, but am also very uncomfortable in the water. Tried snorkeling once; probably won't ever do it again. Luv2cruise14 Posted April 7, 2006 #5 Share Posted April 7, 2006 I booked this excursion last night and was wondering the same thing. From what I can remember we booked the 9:00 to 1:30 session so hopefully we will have alittle time to shop. Has anyone been on this excursion? If so, how did you like it? Thanks:)
bills blasters Posted April 10, 2006 #6 Share Posted April 10, 2006 I am also waiting to hear some replies. There must be someone out there that has booked this tour with CCL. We will have a five year old along, and am wondering if she can just stand in the water and see the stingrays. She won't be able to snorkle. toledo Posted April 11, 2006 #7 Share Posted April 11, 2006 We did not book through the cruise lines, but I can answer some of your questions. Most boats dock right on the sandbar. The shallowest water there is still 3 feet deep. Beacause there were so many boat there, we had to anchor in deep water and swim 20 yards to get to the sandbar. Our boat offered life jackets to anyone who wanted them. I talked to 3 groups who booked with Carnival and none of us were overly thrilled with Stingray City, simply because it was too crowded, their bus drivers drove like maniacs, and one mentioned their boat hit another, causing damage and an injury. There were 6 ships in port the day we were there which caused the congestion. I recommend getting to the sandbar as early as possible. The price is only $30 if you book in advance with one of the private tour operators. Their boats are smaller and may offer a second stop to do some snorkeling.
