What about the port of Bari, Italy?

Recommended Posts

Bari is our first port enroute to the Greek Isles in June. From what I've read, it is not the most desirable port for sightseeing. One post even recommended staying on the ship.

We're in port for 6 hours. We'd love to spend a large part of that time on a nice beach. Are there any within reach of the Bari port? Is there public transport? Is it safe?

Costa offers a 5-hr beach excursion to a private resort in Puglia for 49 euro per person (there are 4 of us). Maybe this is a good deal, but I want to know about any do-it-yourself options we might have instead.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Lori
