Randi S. Posted April 7, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 7, 2006 We are booked on the May 20th Infinity to Alaska, and will also have a few extra days in San Francisco. Since, I am still deciding what to pack, I was wondering if my leather jacket would be practical and appropriate. I understand it might be colder in San Francisco than Alaska. Would the jacket be suitable on board?
Druke I Posted April 7, 2006 #2 Share Posted April 7, 2006 Not sure about the practicality of a leather jacket - haven't owned one in years. I find a lightweight waterproof shell type jacket fine for both San Francisco and Alaska - and they certainly pack lighter than leather. Layering is really the answer for the City by the Bay, onboard enroute, and Alaska.
hancock Posted April 7, 2006 #3 Share Posted April 7, 2006 Leather jackets tend to be heavy. I agree that you should pack lighter weight clothing. We did Alaska last May. Layering worked well for us. We did sail from San Francisco. Found that you can be cold one minute and hot the next. SF seems to be a town with many micro climates. Have a great trip! Nancyquilts Posted April 7, 2006 #5 Share Posted April 7, 2006 How does the leather jacket like the rain?
mii Posted April 7, 2006 #6 Share Posted April 7, 2006 Been to Alaska three times and I must tell you like the other posters say a leather jacket is too heavy. A lightweight rain proof jacket is perfect for San Francisco and Alaska. The key is layering. For example a turtleneck, then the jacket or sweater. Have a great cruise. I did that cruise last year on the Infinity. Wonderful. Marilyn
Taters Posted April 7, 2006 #7 Share Posted April 7, 2006 If you like wearing your leather jacket, then by all means bring it! The name of the game is to be comfortable. Some leather jackets are heavier than others... Taters
packercruising Posted April 8, 2006 #8 Share Posted April 8, 2006 It's not just the "Normal" whether you have to think about. We were there last May also, and the excursions can get chilly. It got down into the 30's in Ketchican. I too agree that the leather jacket would be impractical, and I love mine. Have a freat time! It's just awesome!
