Wide Open Sea Posted April 10, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 10, 2006 Greetiings. Will be on Galaxy EMed 5/22 sailing. A few questions about onboard ATM and currency exchange: 1. What is the per transaction on-board ATM charge? 2. Does the ATM dispense currencies (e.g. Euro and Turkish lira) other than US dollars? 3. If not via the ATM is there on-board currency exchange? 4. If there is on-board currency exhange how do the exchange rates compare with what one might obtain in port? thanks:)
duckman715 Posted April 10, 2006 #2 Share Posted April 10, 2006 From our trip last October I would recommend you use ATMs in your ports of call. They are EVERYWHERE - airports, street corners etc. The only fee is what your bank charges for using another ATM. The exchange rate is better than what you will get from a bank or currency exchange operation. I believe the on board ATMs are dollars only but cannot testify under oath to that effect. The Purser on board will exchange for you for no fee but, and this is a generalization, for a slightly less favorable rate. You can re-exchange Euros for dollars at the end of your trip on board but you will not be able to re-exchange to dollars the one & two Euro coins - anywhere. I use them for golf ball markers. Always a conversation starter
teedee Posted April 10, 2006 #3 Share Posted April 10, 2006 It was $5 or $6 per transaction to use the atm. You do get American dollars. It's much better to get cash from the casino with your sea pass card. There's no service charge, the money is charged to your onboard account.
