donmil723 Posted April 12, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2006 We are doing the Stingray City tour with Soto's and want to be dropped off at 7 mile beach afterwards. I first thought SeaGrape beach would be good but it sounds like it is the farthest away from the port. We also want to do some shopping for rum cakes and go to Hard Rock Cafe and Margaritaville, if its open. Is there a nice area on 7 mile beach closer to Georgetown and the port so we could still have time to do a little shopping? Thanks!

trcori Posted April 15, 2006 #3 Share Posted April 15, 2006 We were in Grand Cayman this past Monday (April 10) on Galaxy. Four other ships in port. This was the only port where we hadn't booked an excursion -- we just wanted to go to the beach for a while. Three years ago, we cabbed to what was then the "Holiday Inn beach" on 7-Mile but is now the Ritz-Carlton site. So we were a little confounded as to where to go. Finally decided to just brave one of the endless buses from the tender-pier area hawking "Seven Mile Beach" trips. The Royal Palms Beach Club is their first stop == $4/person US, while other spots on Seven Mile are $5/person. Free admission, the driver told us. So we chanced it. Perfectly fine little beach. Kind of crowded. There's a restaurant, bar, restrooms. You can pay to rent chairs and umbrellas (we didn't). Jet skis and boats are anchored near shore so you have to dodge them to swim; the bottom is rocky so bring your water shoes. We stayed about an hour (leery of sunburn, even with heavy-duty sunscreen) and had a fine time in the water. Then it was back to town (a downpour started along the way, but that's a whole 'nother story) and a fairly short ride, at least in the early afternoon -- TR
Inshape Posted April 18, 2006 #4 Share Posted April 18, 2006 Do the cabs charge for kids, ages 10 and 11?

If anyone should go to Sea Grape, just allow plenty of time to get back. The week we were there, traffic was stopped or very slow at any given time of the day, but especially early morning, lunch and dinner time. We noticed the traffic was always slow near the Ritz. It could have been that way because it had just opened the week we were there...who knows, but it was a bit of a mess.
