Dilemma on car rental...

Once again, this isn't specifically about cruising, so I hope this is OK. :o

 

There will be 4 adults and 3 kids (1, 3 and 6) going on our family trip this summer. We're looking to rent a vehicle (my dad has points from National car rental) that will fit us all, plus the bare necessities. We are planning on packing light, as we will have access to a washer and dryer while on vacation. But even with packing light, we still have 2 strollers, a "pack and play" and a beach tent (folds up pretty slim, but it's still 'there'). We were originally looking at a minivan, but unless they can guarantee we'll have a luggage rack, we can't do it (and they say they can't guarantee that). I'm wondering if a 7 passenger SUV would have more storage room? We'd probably be looking at 4 suitcases, 2 strollers (hoping to up/downgrade to decent umbrella strollers) a pack & play (the beach tent could probably just go under someone's feet).

 

Any thoughts? We're desperate here!:( Not only because of the money issue, but because my dad has tons of experience driving in NYC (where we're flying into), my DH has NONE and I'd be a nervous wreck trying to navigate him out of there (should we have to get 2 cars), LOL. :eek: Thanks much!:)
