Queen Elizabeth 2 is under extra guard in Alexandria after Cunard Line became aware of ‘certain information' concerning the vessel as it transits 'the Egyptian region.'

‘We believe there is no cause for alarm, however as a precaution we have placed the ship onto a higher level of security as it passes through this area,’ said Cunard spokeswoman Julie Benson. ‘In addition shoreside security has been increased at the various ports of call.

Shore excursions are going ahead.

The UK Department for Transport told the BBC it was aware of ‘some information concerning the security of the QE2’ and is in contact with Cunard and closely monitoring the situation.

QE2 is on its world cruise.

I had thought of the World Cruise on QE2, and since 9/11, had been wary of the idea of sailing anywhere in that region. I was wondering why cruise ships would even take the risk under the circumstances.

Because the risk is very small.

 

You're far safer sailing to a city than walking around in it.

I will be on the QM2 for the World Cruise, and I wish they would change the itinerary. Dubai and Egypt do not seem safe for excursions.

HAL is doing 3 ports in Israel on their World Cruise next year!

I hope the planners for the cruise lines use some common sense and keep safe.
