Shore excursions

If this is a dupe thread I'm sorry, I'm new to this. First cruise, no idea what I'm doing. Everyone at work has told me to do shore excursions by myself because they are cheaper than getting through Carnival. Is this so? Somebody please help before I spend more than I need to. I don't even know where to go. :eek: Carnival Legend Ports are San Juan, St. Thomas and Tortola 5/4/2006.

you take your chances getting back to the boat on time if you don't book thru the cruise line. The boat will NOT wait for you.

Since you are new to cruising it might be beneficial to go through the cruise tours the first time. Any ideas on what you want to do or like?
