joeinsb Posted April 19, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 19, 2006 Does anyone out there who's older than cellphones know anything about the Detroit & Cleveland Steamship Line, which used to ply the Great Lakes from Buffalo to Detroit, Sault St Marie, etc? When I was a kid, my folks and I sailed overnight from Buffalo to Detroit on (I believe) The City of Cleveland, and returned on City of Detroit. Both of these were side paddle wheelers, which is pretty amazing since the industry was well into propellers by this time (the 1950s). These ships were powered by steam engines and were quite grand for their relatively small size. All I've found so far is a few snippets of info and a picture or two that I got Googling this subject. But I'd like to hear/read more, if someone out there knows. A book would be great!
CMHF Posted April 19, 2006 #2 Share Posted April 19, 2006 Did you try googling using quotation marks? Try ("city of detroit" ship). I got about 50,900 sites with info & history in some. Harvey
