Alan Posted April 19, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 19, 2006 Our ship will be calling on LaRochelle/La Pallice in May. We would like to pre-reserve our shore excursions, but don't know enough about port and excursions. Choices are: LaRochelle & Isle de Re, Saintes & Cognac, The Green Venice and The Red Hand, and Marennes & Brouage. Can anyone help us? Thanks! Morgans Posted April 19, 2006 #2 Share Posted April 19, 2006 We have just returned a few days ago from a cruise which included this port of call. We didn't do an excursion but simply looked around the town of La Rochelle itself which is a beautiful little place. There are many excellent shops and restaurants and the harbour is very pretty - it's a good place for people watching. The cruise line provided a shuttle bus because it is a good ride into town - approx 20 minutes at least. From La Pallice you can see the bridge which connects to the Isle de Re. Several people did this trip and said the Isle was beautiful and very interesting, although very small. The beaches are unspoilt and very clean.Other people raved about the Green Venice trip. When we were there it was extremely cold and it was simply too chilly to contemplate going on the canals/rivers. By May it should be very pleasant.
