sthrnbelle Posted April 26, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 26, 2006 I'm looking to pick up a lot of souvenirs and will be doing so in Costa Maya and Belize. What things should I look for here and what are the best shops?
chris2597 Posted April 26, 2006 #2 Share Posted April 26, 2006 We bought wood bowls that were made from the different types of trees in Belize and S. America...They are very beautiful. I dont think Belize is known for anything other than the bowls and wood carvings....There are loads of tshirt shops, and typical touristy shops in port....There is a flea market outside of the port gates, but beware that you are on your own once you leave the port area. We looked around the flea market and didnt see anything....and went back in the secured area.
fireboat Posted April 26, 2006 #3 Share Posted April 26, 2006 Their rum is suppose to be good. We ran out of time but another van with us did stop at a local store (the van driver recommended it). Our cohorts were satified.

CaptainJeanLuc Posted May 3, 2006 #5 Share Posted May 3, 2006 Belize is the only port of call I've ever been to where I couldn't find a single thing to buy!
Tarheelbelle Posted May 8, 2006 #6 Share Posted May 8, 2006 I bought a wooden mask and also a stone/slate with some carving of a medicine man. I purchased these in 2004 after my Lamanai/New River safari tour from some local carvers at the boat ramp. Last year in Belize, I didn't purchase much. I did find a nice pareo/wrap in a stall at the tourist village.
