What is the best way to get to Pompeii? What do you recommend seeing

after Pompeii? Is the best way by private car? Is it safe to take a train?

How far is the train station from the port?

The second is a book, the 'Insight Guide to Mediterranean Cruising'. It covers the main Mediterranean destinations from the point of view of someone cruising, and particularly adresses issues such as means of transport from the ports to tourist sights/attractions. We found it very useful last year.
