Cost of Taxi from Redhook to JFK?

Hello everyone,

Was wondering what the cost is to go from Red Hook to JFK, and do you have to wait long to grab a taxi?

One other question, we plan on doing one of the formal nights but not necessarily all of them as we do not have enough formal wear for 3 separate nights. Is there an option for renting formalwear? What are the options for eating on the formal nights if you are not going formal?

Thank you!!

Cheers,

Lorraine

Depending on which way they go it will be between $40.00 and $70.00Per cab. There is no toll but a tip is expected(15-20%). It is reported that there are more limos waiting than cabs. If the limo give you a fare of about $60.00 per limo take the limo.

By all means take the limo if you have a substantial amount of luggage. Some New York taxis cannot accomodate several large pieces but you should be able to find a limo that can.

I paid $45.00 for a limo ride from LGA to Manhattan -- so certainly do not pay more than $60.00 from Red Hook (in Brooklyn) to JFK. Be sure to ask first how much the limo will be and agree with the driver in advance. But that is $60.00 without the gratuity -- the driver will expect you to add at least $10.00 to that particularly if you have a lot of luggage.

Regarding the formal nights, I know some ladies do wear the same outfit on the first and third formal nights (perhaps with different accessories) -- on the theory that (unless you happen to know someone on-board) most people will not remember what you were wearing the first night.

Even if they do, you will probably never see them again. So, unless you personally feel uncomfortable wearing the same outfit and it gives you a lot of "angst" or have close friends on-board who are going to broadcast to all your other friends what you did, then consider this as a way to cut down on how much you need to carry.

My ex-wife also solved this by buying a reversible formal outfit -- on the third night she just turned it in-side out and no-one onboard knew except her (now ex-) husband.

Thank you very much for the info guys!

It sounds like it is well worth a bit extra for the taxi or limo as a opposed to the pre-arranged bus with Cunard.

Will see what I can dig up that is easy to disguise/re-accessorize to re-wear. You are right about not knowing the other passengers, and even if you do it's not the end of world.

Thanks again...

Cheers,

Lorraine
