What time do they roll the sidewalks up on Caribbean Princess

I will be on CB on 7/29- our first time on a Princess ship and I keep seeing comments from previous cruisers that everything goes dead after 11pm...... I hope not? I am cruising with two teens who like to boogie the night away. The oldest will be 18 the week before we cruise so he is really looking forward to going to an 'adult' disco such as Skywalkers for the first time, so much more 'cool' than teen activities....LOL

The younger will be almost 14,so he likes to hang at the teen club/disco until they kick them out.:)

I think I can find plenty to do with comedy shows, entertainment that I see listed, but don't want to go to bed at 111pm either. I'm not interested in the Casino.

So,what's the night life like?

We usually turn in after the 10:30 show around midnight and there are still lots of people about. Skywalkers doesn't even open til 9 or 10 pm and stays open til the wee hours of the morning. Tell your 18 yo he will need his ID as they usually do check at the entrance. The pools and hot tubs stay open late, too. And there is usually an active teen club onboard for your 14 yo. I've heard that Princess does now have Teen Security to control any rowdiness.

The Island Night party up on the pool decks doesn't start until 9 or 10 pm, so will not end at 11. And the Champagne Waterfall is scheduled at midnight - it is always a party atmosphere.

I never got the "roll up the sidewalks at 11" feeling on either Princess cruise we've been on. There were always a couple of lounges that had bands playing until well after midnight, as well as Skywalkers until whenever. In comparison to my 2 Carnival cruises, for as much as the party hype, they didn't really have anything more going on in the late hours than Princess did. A couple lounges and a disco was about it too. Althought the Victory had a one man band playing beside the Casino, so you could sit there and have a drink and listen if the other bars didn't interest you.

Have never gone to Skywalkers but I do know that they have special things for the teens that don't even start until 11pm or later. So I don't think either will have a bad or boring time.

GloriaF- doesn't the sea pass have their age on it? Or at least some indication that they are minors or adults?

If I remember right on RCCL the card has holes punched in it to show their status.

They don't want to get 'rowdy' but they really look forward to staying up late etc and having a good time with their friends.

What they remember most about cruising is how much they laughed!

Happy days......:)

My daughter looks 15 despite the fact that she is a few days away from being 19. She had to have her drivers license to get into skywalkers past 10pm.

There was plenty to do on the ship late at night. I pulled out my Patters and they showed several late movies on Muts like Rocky Horror Picture show that did not start until 11:30 PM.

Skywalkers had several "Party Times" that did not start until 11:45

Explorers lounge had comedians at 830 and 11:30 PM

Two different nights in Club Fusion was a Teen Idol that started at 11:45

Tropical Deck Party started at 10:15

Hope that gives you a little bit of information.

Mary

emdia43 - I didn't mean to insinuate that your kids were rowdy, I mentioned the teen security actually to give you peace of mind about them being out late. It is important to teens to have their independence and to have fun, too.

I think you will all find plenty to do later in the evening and I'm glad that you have the answers you were seeking. Be sure to make reservations for MUTS early so you will have a reserved lounge chair, blanket and small bag of popcorn.

ID - Drivers license? What about those kids that travel with just a passport? I don't want my kids carrying around their passports to prove their age.

On Carnival, RCCL and Celebrity, they just showed their cards?

I don't think you have a problem - if your kids are too young for a driver's license, then they won't need to prove their age going into Skywalker's or being served alcohol. :)

I'm a bit confused about that too- our soon to be 18yr old doesn't drive.

The only photo ID he has is a school ID....

I wouldn't send him out with his passport in his pocket.I keep them all in the safe when we travel.

I wonder if a photocopy of his passport would work as far as proving his age....make a copy and shrink it to wallet size....also a student id should work....but i guess that would depend if it had his birthdate.

Overall, the ship is going to quiet down dramatically after 11, but the bars and lounges are going to continue to have live and recorded music. A lot of areas will stay open as late as there are customers. CB is certainly a younger-than-usual-for-Princess crowd, and I don't think either you or your teens will have trouble finding something to do. Just remember that if you want places to stay open, they've got to have customers -- so don't just wander the ship looking for something to do -- find a bar or lounge to hang out and do what customers do. :)

Bert will play quite late if there's an audience-- not that he's a Whoopin' Teen Party, but it might give you something to check out late at night. The pools are open pretty late (if not all night?) so that's another possibility, if you're into that. If all else fails (it won't!)...you can eat!

Check this out for your younger teen. It should give you a good idea of what's available:

You'll have fun!

Thanks for that link- those activities look great, and closing times do meet their 'staying up half the night' requirement....LOL:)

The younger boy is a bit shy at first- he prefers to hang out at the basketball court and makes friends very quickly there- then feels better about walking into a club/disco with the new friends to scope things out.

The oldest boy can walk in anywhere and make friends,he is a natural talker and is usually surrounded by a big group of teens whenever I see him.

I expect to look for him at Skywalkers if I need him........

There was a comedian on The Grand in Feb that was so funny....He did what was billed a family show....but it had some adult undertones...Everyone was ROFL the whole time....He announced that he would have a midnight adult comedy show later in the week....Dh and I made sure we went to it....OMG....My sides hurt from laughing. He said he has been on Comedy Central and performed at the Improv in LA.

We traveled on the Star Princess (yes that star, that cruise) this spring. My two daughters are 21 and 24 and had to carry their driver's licences as well as cruise cards. Princess was being very diligent about checking photo id for alcohol purchse. The just turned 21 didn't mind, but the 24 year old got a little irratated with this. Personally I think this was a good thing, although I am sure their were under 21's that figured a way around this. Neither had their id's checked at Skywalkers, but my husband went with them on fire night so maybe having "daddy" with them made a difference.

With everyone switching to passports by December, this ID requirement needs to be made clear for future sailings. DH and I don't even bring our license now that we have passports. Our children will be getting their passports this fall - just in case we decide to take them on another cruise - so I will have to make sure they also carry their licenses.

Oldest DD (Indie for those of you who read my review on the Star) lost her Driver's Licence and really was irratated. I had made copies of our passports and think that would have worked well, but someone turned her licence into the purser's office:) ,. With that said. I would have made a color copy of either the DL or passports and laminated them. My guess is they:) would have worked for id, and if lost, no issues. However, their are some regulations against making copies of official US id, so, go figure. Personally, I would live dangerously, make copies, and have the real thing if needed. We all had a great time on the Star, and if the fire had not occured suspect Sky walkers would have been lively the next few nights.
