Leith to Edinburgh

Recommended Posts

No more than a two or three miles from Port of Leith to central Edinburgh - it really depends on whereabouts in the Port you actually dock, and whereabouts in central Edinburgh you regard as 'central Edinburgh'. For example North Bridge at one end of Princes Street (handy for the Old Town, Holyroodhouse, Calton Hill) is almost a mile closer to Leith than the west end of Princes Street, which is where the Castle is.

There are plenty of buses and taxis.

Leith is more or less in the city. Some of the larger cruise ships dock outside the city at S. queensferry, not at all convenient.

Leith is part of the "regeneration" of the old docks area. You are right next to the Royal Yacht Britannia and Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre. theres a viewing area inside the shopping centre so shoppers can look at the ships. Theres lots of new build there. Many people live there and others work there.

Taxis and buses right there. Buy a day ticket (after 09-30 Mon to Fri, and anytime Sat or Sun) and you can ride all the buses all day for £2-30. Its a good deal. The minimum single journey fare went up to £1 last month, so getting into town and back to the ship will cost you a min of £2. The day ticket is good value. You need exact fare on all buses in Edinburgh, no change given. Includes the day ticket. But if 2/3/4 of you you can ask for that number of tickets and make one payment so you dont all need £2-30 each. Eg 2 of you is £4-60, 3 is £6-90. get off at Princess Street. travel time approx 10/15 mins depending on traffic. If you can get the 22 theres a 5 minute frquency on this route. You wont wait long for one to get back to the ship. I'm not 100% sure which buses run to the terminal. I know there are several. You could check the Lothian Buses website.

And if you click DESTINATIONS here on CC you will find lots of Edin (Leith) docking info.

Have a great time. I love living here.
