Need cost/info in getting from Penn Station in NYC to dock

Recommended Posts

We need a low cost method to get from Penn Station to the dock to board the Spirit in June. My husband and I cruised on the Dawn:) a few years ago and this will be our first family cruise (2 children, ages 7 and 12):( all in the same room. I need info on the Cocoa Beach Resort excursion. (not the shuttle down to beach) They would not tell me the name of the "resort" that you are taken to. Also any comments on the kids clubs would be a big help. I have read just about every review on food, entertainment, etc.. Sounds like Windows will be fine for us most nights. Thanks to all..

I always walk. It's about 20-30 minutes, and very cheap. :D I take 8th Ave up to 42 St then cut over.

I would just grab a cab, with two small children and luggage, walking wouldn't be my first choice. We will be grabbing a cab from Grand Central...how much could it cost to go to the pier? I'm sure less than $20 Have a fantastic time!

Wouldn`t even be my 10th choice:rolleyes: Penn Station should be around $15.00 if you all fit in the cab with your luggage.......may have to take 2.

i think the walk from penn station to the pier would be a little rough if you have luggage and children. A cab should run under $20 with tip [cab from 45th and 9th ave to the 48th and 12th (directly across street from pier)] was $5 plus a $2 tip; cab home was $5 plus $1 tip since the guy didn't even get out of the cab to open door let alone load our bags in]

'cheaper' option might be taking the M11 bus up 8th avenue and then the m50 across 49th street however far west it goes, but that'll be $8 and a lot of waiting for buses and far more cumbersome----drink one less drink on during the cruise and you've made up the difference in cost...] i'd go for the cab

Cab is the cheapest way to go with tip probably less than $20.00 depending on time of day. Try to get a minivan cab which should not be difficult so that they'll be room for all of you plus luggage (just to avoid 2 cabs).

Right outside Penn station on both the 7th avenue side and the 8th avenue side are manned taxi lines. Just let the Taxi Captain know what you need, and he'll arrange the van type taxi. It should be about $15 - then a tip of $5 for the driver and $1-$2 for the Taxi captain.

Please be sure to keep all of your luggage in site at all times. It is always rather busy outside Penn Station.

I am sure you could call the local cab company and arrange to be picked up and told how much the fair would be before you leave....

They are all local in NY:rolleyes: Didn`t think about a van cab.......not sure if I ever saw one:confused: I am sure they are there.

Yes they have cabs that are mini vans. They also have Explorer cabs.

I agree with taking a cab (and they are bigger cabs - van cabs - around though not that many) The walk from Penn Stn can be quite frustrating because of the crowd...pulling luggage along and all...not a good idea. During the 2004 convention, one of the wheels from my samsonite oyster came off after dragging it for only one block!
